Gunslinger experience?

heyah folks !

i am about to buy me a nice 80's bc rich gunslinger model and i am just curious if someone here got experiences with these

or prbly owns on?

What are the specs and which series is it? There are a lot of good ones but also a lot of very bad ones..

all i know:

- made in the usa somwhere in the 80's

- alder body

- maple neck and fingerboard 22 frets, reversed headstock

- one slanted humbucker dimarzio superdistortion, one vol

- black hardware , bc rich double locking trem

sounds not bad to me dont know which model it is exactly...

Mmmm... well if i like a guitar and the price is reasonable and i can afford it i buy it... I do not care that much for resale value as i intent to play them. BC Rich appeals to a small percentage of people. They are love it or hate it guitars.



What scale is it? Check the frets, neck curve and neck joint. And look for wear on the knive edges of the trem. If you like it buy it. And show it off here..



Just to be sure, and not nessesarely regarding this guitar: a US Rich has to say made in USA on the headstock, or have a stamp. The BC Rich California neckplate is not proof it is a US guitar. If it says platinum series licenced by BC Rich it is a mid/late eighties (plywood)import. The Platinum name was reused in the early 2000's on another (different) series. If it only has the logo on it and a BC Rich California neckplate it is nine out of ten times a import. If the guitar is a neckthru and the serial starts with a Uxxxx then it is a US series which are fabricated in japan and assembled in the USA.

BC Rich have used the same names for different series and different lands of fabrication. NJ originally stands for Nagoya Japan, but modern ones are from Korea . There are very bad guitars under this moniker but also good ones(regarding the older 80s ones). Platinum, i have just explained.

The recent riches have been an improvement over a very bad import period but are not even remotley close to the guitars from the beginning.

Ah well.. i've owned a lot over the years and i like to read about this stuff. As i started playing in the "shape/hotrod era" and i am into metal guitars i've accuired some backgound info. But mainly about the guitars that interest me. Don't ask me about all the Fender series...

Most of the folk here are a lot younger than i am and i grew up with these guitars. I used to have a good job and i set myself the goal to try as much as i could get my hands on. What i liked i kept. But i've been able to own or try almost anything i wanted.

The guitar i wanted the most over the years and thought i would never be able to own turned out to be the biggest disapointment though..

yeah the reason i want such a guitar is i am searching for a cool looking 80's or 90's strat with a fast neck, marple fretboard and floyd ... charvel, jackson, kramer, hamer ... i searched a lot but most of them are fuckin expansive.. or just hard to find/get so some hard-on bearer showed me a pic and told me something about a gunslinger ...i knew gunslinger before but never played one and today i found a nice one on ebay with the same specs maybe its the same it has some awesome retro custom graphic

and i like this ..i am still not sure what to think about the price..

Personally i think his price is too high. It has a chuncky neck. Not like thin necks most shred guitars have.

I think it is a late eighties (maybe even early era of the gloryhole guitar). At the end, just before Bernie Rico sold his company they were pumping out a lot of strats. St, Gunslingers, assasins.. Moser (who designed the bich) said that this period and the descisions to do this and the focus on bad imports were among the reasons the company had to be sold.



Also i do not have personal expirience with the seller but on a forum i used to visit he is spoken of in a not so good manner. Overpriced and having a lot of bullshit in his descriptions.



I would not buy is.

The Charvel Pro mod serie retails for 666 euro's at Thomann. So-cal and San dimas style. With either duncans or Di-Marzio's. Japan made good quality. Basicly the ultimate 80's superstrat.



Otherwise look for a Charvel model 6, 650 XL or a model 5. Awesome guitars.

yep i agree

thanks again ! i really like charvel but these san dimas style models and some others got a floyd which is bit limited in on direction right?

i can remember playin one with a non recessed floyd and wondered why they do this ...

i'd really go with charvel they're damn good when it comes to playability/sound

i was just lookin for something out of the b o x .. like with some cool graphic on it or something ..not evh style or george lynch tiger stripes because everyone got

these gimmicks .. but this is always hard to find

for criteria:

like i sad before

quality floyd

some ohter color than just black

jumbo frets are ok

for sound i have to try every time .. for example dimarzio superdis. sounds good with my setup, and some duncans too but it depends on the guitar as well

so i have to figure this out for my self again..

i prefer bolt on necks and light weigth bodies i guess

well i guess i end up buying me a new charvel but im still undecided

i browsed thoman quiet some times but they dont have much in stock anymore

it says recessed floyd but i thought if it is recessed then there has to be a lower area under/around the trem ?

As far as i know they are not recessed. But they do float. The neckpocket has a small angle. Though pulling up is limited.

I know this threads old but I have a old BC rich USA gunslinger. I got it back in about 89-90 and it had this "lightening sky" paint job but I had it painted black a couple years later I saw the same lightening sky model up for $7,000 which I totally regret painting it but just saying there worth some serious money and a classic 80's hairmetal axe

there is an 80's gunslinger at the guitar shop down the street from me for 275. i'm tempted, but my better half would probably roll her eyes if i brought it home. that, and it really needs a fret job bad. someone scalloped the fret board and did an alright job... i'll take a picture of it if it's still there.
