of the tube variety. i'm thinking in the vein of like, the epiphone valve junior on the low end, or oragne's tiny terror. anyone got experience with these? i'm thinking of purchasing one eventually (like, distant future, i guess, since i'm broke as shit in this period), since i'd really like to own an actual tube amp, and i've got fuck all for space and have zero use for a high-wattage half-stack setup, living in an apartment with neighbors and roommates and all. trying to figure out exactly what's out there and what's good, dig?

I never found a usage for such things, the whole point of getting a tube amp sounding good is cranking it right up, and those like 4watt ones or whatever get insanely loud for their size.

i found the perfect solution the blackstar HT1 is low-powered enough that i can crank it up quite nicely to get the appropriate levels of saturation, without shaking the walls and making my roommates regret letting me move in. for a dinky-ass 1W combo though, it puts out some impressive volume/tone. perfect for my room as i can stand it on top of my computer which rests between my desk and a small end-table. nice and compact, sweet tone, and i got a pretty sweet deal on it.

My mate had one of these, honestly, I was not too impressed... It didn't have enough gain on it's own, sounded decent with a tube screamer and high output pickups, but didn't really feel like a valve amp or be too suited for metal.



He's since got the bigger version and in all honestly, it sounds crap, it's like a giant practice amp. Blackstar seems very overated to these pessimistic ears

It is not equipped with tube however there is the Marshall technology behind that it will alter the signal to sound like tube sound. It is quite not there but I do enjoy enough of the sound.

been digging on the tiny terror myself lately, slap a fuzz pedal in front of that and you're in stoner rock heaven, personally there's nothing wrong with the kind of grit those amps get, they're not designed to be "extreme metal hyper distortion machines"

has anyone played one of these???

hmm really? from the vids and clips i've heard, the TT has some really awesome high-gain sounds that would work perfect for DM and the like. but i haven't actually had a chance to play one in person, so i have no clue. i take it you've got one of those yourself, or have had the chance to actually mess around with one?

well I mean it's not mountains and mountains of gain, but yea you could play DM or Thrash with one, most of those guys in bands in those genres use less gain than most of us think anyway
