What is the difference between these two lines, in a nutshell. Max 1000 word essays are accepted as answer more than you're a hillbilly!

Better finished necks/fretwork. Better hardware/trems made of higher quality materials (metal).

Yeah, pretty much sums it up. They just added the prestige label to the higher end models to distinguish them from the entry levels a bit better; previously, they were all just plain old RG's (I believe). I bought mine in 1998 when it was just a plain old RG570, I don't believe they've made any substantial changes to the model but it's now called the RG1570 Prestige or some-such

Thanks mates. I was just getting confused because there are few used Prestige models on sale here which don't have any significant outlook differences to plain RG-models which on sale too. Same pups, same bridges, same necks. Only noticeable difference is the text on neck

the most important thing to look for in any RG model is the original wizard-profile neck (my favorite neck on any guitar ever). i think the lower-end models typically use the wizard II, which is fatter and slower and generally poop compared to the original.

Prestige necks get a few more steps in finishing. Nicer fret-ends, rounded edges on the board sides. And Woods from different sources. Those extras were added when the prestige name came into picture.

I used to own a RG7620 which became a parts donor for my ironbird7. Compared to that one my RG1527 is better on all accounts. Neck more rigid, nicer texture of the back of the neck. Better quality rosewood board and a great fretjob.



I prefer the Ultra necks instead of the Wizards. I like a bigger profile. Though the bigger Ibby profiles are not that big compared to a big old style Gibson or fender neck.

i should point out here that my preference for the wizard is probably directly related to my tiny hands

My RG420 has aWizard II and I enjoy how it feels.

Considering the RG's I'd go for the RG1570 as i prefer that trem over the other one. But the KV is a really good guitar too. As I said in the other tread; my brother has one.. duncans, Floyd, good fretwork and Neck-thru. There is nothing wrong with the newer ones.

Peolpe are bashing the "new" Fender Jacksons while playing older bolt-on import RR3... I'm sure there are lemons out there, but i've played awesome ones.

The ones i found on the ibby site have different trems... The edge zero II with ZPS3Fe on the premium, The Edge-Zero bridge w/ZPS3 on the prestige. Definetly different. And because you were talking about a second hand it is possible the prestige has a Edge Pro (rules) as those were there before they changed to the Edge-Zero.

I have large hands and prefer the wizard to just about any other neck myself, original Edge trem is gravy as well
