SPEED: my fucking aim

Ok. I am working a lot on speed, I'm jamming after a lot of time Troy Stetina "Speed mechanics for lead guitar" again and I admit is very useful. :xx:

I really want to reach a GREAT speed on solos. But of course, I don't mean "Slayerish solos", that are fucking storm of Floyd Rose effects and thousands notes without a precise combination. As some of you know, I'm a fan of that fat able-bodied chap of Yngwie Malmsteen, so I'm working on very melodic and neoclassical oriented solos and trying to bring them on a big speed.

I use of course methronome and now I can reach 140 without any particular problems  ( of course solos not of 3 notes)

I admit is very dificult being PRECISE and speed. A lot of exercise is required

post here some speed exercise u use. Tabs and shit like this well accepted :xx:

let's go speeeeeeeeeeeeeeed faster than the speed of light of hell fucking god :god:

Just keep practicing aod and you'll be shredding like Malmsteen. :bang:

I've read that Yngwie said he never practiced doing exercises and stuff like that, he said that anytime he picked up his guitar all he did was just jam.

mmm not so sure. Of course about Yngwie 70% is natural talent for guitar playing. But I am not sure he only "jam". I am sure he did a lot of exercise too. He is not kerry king, he knows what he is doing on that wood.

I'll scan the article later tonight so you can check it out. I think I have a few Yngwie Guitar World mags.

Well, no wonder that YM claims he was " jus' jammin' ", because he just wants to come across as an artist playing from the heart, but he certainly had exercised a lot in the past (he's clearly stagnating a lot these days).

Anyway, Aod you have the right book, Troy's book is really good. Don't search for more random exercises, just stick to the Stetina's program.

Tnks Uros. :xx: Yeah the Troy book is very useful and I'm growing in quality with it. I need exercise as much as possible.

I agree about YM. Is clear that he exercised a LOT.

To be honest I'm not sure there's a quick answer. All you can do is practice. I'll gladly write up a few exercises for you and email them over as guitar tab if you like, other than that it's down to pushing your limits and gradually getting more accurate over time :santa:

This one should help. It sounds sort of neo-classical too which should give you an incentive to play it really fucking fast :xx:

I enjoy the Fat Swede, but there's something that i hate about his playing too, and i can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's just too 'classical' ? - but i love classical music, so i am confused

The exercise Devy posted .I played it at only 100 of metronome ( the tic-tac-tic-tac u listen is the metronome amplified from the PC, the rest is my guitar recorded just with a little mp3 player, so the sound is meh) , so not so speed. But I'm jamming it from yesterday night so I need to improve speed on it. Anyway I consider it very nice and useful for exercizing left hand fingers :xx:

jam it:

The fact his solos are "classical" oriented is the thing I love. Pentatonic scales are great, are a classic for rock'n roll, but they bore me after a while cause is always the same . Classical oriented solos just makes me cum

2 schools:

gibson = Page,Slash etc.etc. :xx: :xx:

fender = Blackmore,Malmsteen etc.etc. :xx: :xx: :xx: :xx: :xx: :xx:

But it shows promise! It was pretty tight at that speed so it won't be long before you're shredding like Yngwie on a sugar rush

To be honest I don't really play all that much. When I do play it's for fun though, I don't like doing exercises and stuff. To answer your question though, not counting band practice I probably only play about four or five hours a week.

Rather than come up with something original, I decided to just steal something from a song that I think you'd like. That song = Concerto by Cacophony. The main lick in the song is great for practicing accuracy and speed, plus it sounds as neoclassical as it's possible to get without having rickets and dying young. This part of the song is 0:52 - 1:14 in the video below :santa:
