I'm sure it is. Yes, I could probably play it, but I'm not a huge fan of Spanish music. I don't mind listening to it, but I don't like going to the trouble to learn it! I prefer Baroque (this Bach piece is almost unplayable!)

Great stuff, I have much love for the classics but I really get inspired by contemporary stuff. Stravinsky is my hero.

No, I get too nervous. It's one thing to play through a 50,000 watt PA in front of a few thousand people, but it's scary as hell to sit down with a classical guitar in front of a video camera! Maybe someday...

The contemporary piece is by Russian composer/guitarist Nikita Koshkin, who is very much from the Stravinksy/Shostakovich/Prokofiev school. He tries to treat the guitar as a mini-orchestra, or at least a piano!

It's too bad he didn't write any solo guitar pieces (I think one of his chamber pieces uses a guitar), but since he favored quarter-tones on string instruments, it probably wouldn't work to well--or he'd have had to change his approach.

I doubt it. The only way we can achieve quarter tones is by slightly bending strings...quarter tone chords would be nearly impossible. (Quarter tones refer to pitches half way between a note and a half step up/down, such as the pitch between C and C#.) It would sound like shit even if it were playable!

It's something special about it, definatly. I remember some childmovies having alot of music like this actually. Check out Arnold Schoenberg also!

I'm pretty sure I have a CD of low-fi recordings of some of his pieces around here somewhere I could potentially upload. He was the head of a music department at a liberal arts college in Indiana for most of his life after the War. Occasionally, he'd get some people together and actually record his music.
