I just discovered this and I'm new to this secretary of state and his music. All I gotta say is...that low end.

take it you dont listen to meshuggah then, do you
fwiw i still think that chaosphere has the defining djent tone and they havent gotten anywhere close to that since, especially with the 8 strings

Exactly. Well, you gotta understand that there are those among us that live for those 'mechanical' djents and yes...'mechanical' solos and harmonies, if you will.
Then again, I guess that's one of the reasons why I am such a big fan of EMG pickups. There's just something in that "OMFG STERILE AND COMPRESSED NO CHARACTER WTF!" sound that I really, really love.

Ihsahn's 8 string work > Meshuggah's 8 string work.

Regardless of his tone, direction, etc., there's no denying he's a monster player--very fluid. Isn't he the guitarist for Animals as Leaders? They have some pretty cool shit.

not always. it depends on what direction you want the music to take.
(I was mistaken in context and was referring to statements, not music.)

You gotta love the Steve Vai quote at the top of the Animals as Leaders Myspace page. That's pretty high praise.

Ok folks - this band fucking own!!
I just downloaded their album and it's fucking awesome!!
think Serious Young Insects meets Meshuggah's 8-string chugg/rhythm shit with Vai/Tony McAlpine on guitar.
If you're a fan of late 90's/00's fusion, Meshuggah and Vai/shred tech guitar, it's a must!
Sorry, no blog links so I got it on slsk.

not sure how or why I got it.
i dig the guitaring, but it's too '-core' for me. Not really into that mathcore/deathcore stuff anymore.
his is the first Ion Dissonance album to feature 8-string guitars
