I'm looking at this package right now. Advice?

you'll get better tones picking up a cheap m-audio profire 610 off ebay etc and using the free amp sims available. profire goes for $400 retail I believe, but you can prob find one on ebay for $250-300. the sound quality will be amazing.



and amp sims like 8505, 7170, soloc, le456, tse x30...they can't be beat.

Out of my current budget range

I have amplitube 2 and I use it with my presonus interface, kicks ass. It works with any guitar-USB sound interface, the most adequate and minimalistic of which is the line 6 "pod studio" GX. Like 99$ I think, and amplitube is easily found on the web. You won't get the pedal function this way though.

i've always found the simulations in amplitube to be terrible for anything that needs gain. really I'd have to say that revalver is the best set of amp sims out there, but free ones by nick crow and lepou etc are getting very very close to beating revalver.

Are there any sites which compile amp sim reviews, perhaps with sound clips included?

As far as I know there isn't, but the Andy Sneap forum on ultimate-metal is very valuable. Anytime someone develops a new sim, it generally gets posted there and people will post their clips. You'd be surprised how realistic some of the clips sound.

I've used GR2, GR3, Waves GTR3 and Revalver was the first amp sim I tried and I still keep going back to amplitube 2, I find it really easy to dial in the sound I want. Doesn't have all of GR3's effects but the basic stuff sounds awesome imo.

I've been fucking with an Amplitube 2 demo for some time now and I'm still on the fence about tone. I think I just need to tweak some knobs more.



On that note, I just installed demos of Guitar Rig 4 and Revalver, as well as a Nick Crow freeware and "Canadian Metal" from the LePou Plugins blog.

imo guitar rig has the worst simulated distortion tones ever.
