Does the PreSonus Inspire 1394 give any feedback when you use a heavy distortion sound? I've been recording through my mic jack and if I'm not playing
(and even while i'm playing) I get really awful feedback, hissing, bitching. Latency isn't really a problem for me with the drivers I have, even with the mic jack so I figured even the cheapest interface will be fine. I'm just wondering if I'll get all that awful feedback with the presonus inspire?

You'd get feedback with any interface if the volume on your speakers is really high like a normal amp, but I've never experienced any at TV-style volumes using amplitube 2, guitar rig 3 or waves, unless you use a shitload of gain and dist pedals in front of the amp model.
Regardless any cheap interface made for guitars(the line 6 gx is even less expensive and more guitar-specific) will still sound worlds better than the mic jack. The mic preamp you're using(the one on your PC's soundcard) doesn't take high impedance signals from musical instruments well, its made for mics not guitars, so that might have to do something with the noise, besides the bad sound quality.
The inspire uses firewire mind you, you might prefer a usb interface like that line 6 if you're going to use it on different PCs. My bandmate used to use it with his laptop hooked up to a PA mixer, instant amp gratification.

I probably won't be using it on any other pc, and I'm pretty sure my motherboard has a firewire port. But thanks a ton for the info, I really appreciate it. Inspires are actually on sale on musiciansfriend for $99 dollars
And if you're still using the inspire lately is there any chance I could get you to use my preset in guitar rig 3 and let me know how it sounds if you have any free time?

Sounds like a good deal, they must be discontinuing them. Make sure you have a full-size firewire port(same size as a USB, not a tiny one like on laptops), because those allow you to power the device from the PC. It comes with an AC adapter if you're gonna use a non-powered port like on a laptop, but AC adapters can cause some hum noise so its better if it is powered from the PC.
Send/upload the preset to me and I'll try it in a few days, but here are some clips I've done with the inspire:

Well I haven't actually gotten around to playing through the patch myself just yet, but I just re-tracked some old scratch riffs I had recorded some time ago with GR3 and your patch, and it sounded pretty good! Here's the clip of my riffs + your patch:

(I have no idea why it fades in, I didn't program that, but it sure sounds cool

).
Versus the same track, with my original amplitube 2 preset:

Naturally it would sound cleaner if I played through it, as I'd adjust my playing to that insane amount of gain.

Its in the attached rar, its the one called Boogie but I think I the recording has a bit less gain than that patch. Come to think of it, it sounds like zim's patch.
The other patch in the RAR "marshall OD" is the one I used on the original track of my riffs which I mentioned above(2nd link), in case anyone was curious.
