I know, I've been GASing pretty hard over one of these for years. Never quite had the money though.

I like guitar synths, but playing them like that hard-on bearer is kinda gay (using general midi sounds etc).
I had a mate who used one and he would do the keyboard sounds (bad GM e-piano sounds etc) at gigs and I hated it.
To use one awesomely, you need to do the same as Trey or Scott Henderson. mixing eerie pads with real guitar etc...
I couldn't find a vid of it, but check out this vid, talking about various guitar stuffs & FX.
Henderson is one of my fav guitarists - can shred like a demon, but still really bluesy & soulful

also be sure to check out other vids of him

On a similar subject, I'm looking for a USB guitar that is a MIDI controller (so it's like a guitar synth, but is only for MIDI controlling).
There's USB guitars, but they only do audio... not MIDI. I asked around & most places said "you'll need a git synth & pickup" (which are like nearly $1000).
I'm sure they must do USB MIDI-Cont gits. Next time in Japan, I'll hunt about.
