MABB v6.6.6

Hey lads and ladies,



I'm planning to get some cool pedals and see what I can get amp-wise. Basically I want to upgrade my guitar stuff instead of my studio, which is finished now.



Right now I'm checking these pedals and I was wondering what your opinion on them are:



Electro Harmonix:

Big Muff PI w/ Tone Wicker

Cathedral Stereo Reverb

I have that Big Muff PI with Tone Wicker.



It is really horrible, I would not recommend it, even for Doomy stuff.

I just got a Morley Bad Horsie 2 wah. It's neat.

if you want a Big Muff, look at the new Deluxe Big Muff (has mids control) or something like the Mojo Hand Colossus. a muff really needs a mids control.

i think it needs a clarity control

I've recently got the mxr 10-band eq, and I have it going into the loop on my 3rd (lead) channel, and it's great. Delicious tones.

Sick of horrible DI front of house tone, especially when I put on my distortion or fuzz.

stuff like the Mojo Hand Colossus and Blackout Effectors Musket have plenty of clarity.  The Musket even has a control that blends in the clean signal and another that tightens up the bottom end.  Muffs also operate best hooked to a tube amp on "just edge of breakup", not really designed to run into a perfectly clean amp (clean channel with the gain turned up to about 8). 
 
or someone could just use a fuzz face, which sounds similar, but is super clear and crisp

the loop is the perfect place, but that is a versatile eq pedal for sure.

Another important thing to keep in mind about fuzz of all kinds; most fuzz circuits originated in the 60's and 70's and were not designed with high output pickups in mind.  Thus with high output pickups you get way too much compression and mud as a result.

I actually did get a regular EHX Big Muff years ago, back when all I had was high output pickups.  Couldn't figure out what the fuss was all about.
 
Different story with low output single coils.  You get all the thickness, but a lot more clarity.  Especially with the likes of a fuzz face, going from mountains of fuzz to light overdrive, to clean tones with just your guitar volume knob and pickup selector switch.
 
but really, just because something isn't right for someone, doesn't mean it sucks.  AxeFX isn't right for me, but it surely doesn't suck.  much like the fork doesn't suck just because it isn't suitable to eat soup with.
