GOLD - 0 latency with a shit sound card

found this & it works

I installed it & it's working after tweeking some settings! Now I can record my git bits without playing clean and wondering how it will sound.
http://www.asio4all.com/
no guarantees, but try it - simple uninstall if it doesn't work.
(Zim, made me think of you, as you too record like me with a clean sound due to soundcard)

Yeah I've done it before, it works alright, but a guitar into a plain ol' mic/audio jack on a regular soundcard sounds like shit. Clips easily, sounds bad, etc. A guitar into a pre/limiter then into the audio(blue) jack would probably sound better, but you might as well buy a full-fledged usb pre/interface since they're so cheap.
The other guitarist in my band uses a line 6 toneport gx(called pod studio gx now) USB interface with Gearbox software on his laptop, with the output going directly into his powered mixer for band jams and it sounds fuckin incredible and clear, way better than my behringer modeling secretary of state cube.

Will this only work with Amplitude? Could I use it with GuitarRig?

I have a good soundcard, but not with 0 latency.
I installed this & it sounds awesome, just have to buffer it right.
It also seems to become the primary sound device, with a handy taskbar icon that pops up saying it's being used & all is good.
Zim, I got it to work with (stand alone) Amp1, Amp2 & Gitrig 1,2,3,4. Should work for you.
I couldn't get it to work in Wavelab as a LiveInput thing, but it was late & I needed to get to bed.
Also yet to try it in Cubase, but will soon as well as have a good tweak with Wavelab

when I switch to the driver my sound just stops, and I can't figure it out. I found these posts on some forum I think it's the same problem

In short: Cubase VST switches off Realtek AC97 as soon as I open ASIO4ALL v2. Anyone familiar with this phenomenon?
Hi... If asio4all isn't working then yeah u need an interface... there's now way around it... I'm not sure if u played around with the settings in asio4all but its a good app to use in vista with onboard soundcards...
No other solution
so I guess these means it won't work in cubase?

I recorded and everything - I played some ideas off a delay in Git Rig 3, something you can only do in real-time FX.
Then I went and turned off the input and disabled the track FX and I had my shit clean sound recorded, so I could change the FX to anything later on.
I'm really stoked about this, as some things (like above) you can only do with the FX on.

Still not getting any sound, maybe it's just because LE 4 sucks.

Did it work for you with GR zim?
All I get is horrible noise.

I got it to work with GR and Reaper. It is really noisy through the mic jack when using a lot of gain. But it's not as bad when your playing, when you stop playing it screams. But for clean sounds it's awesome and even though it's noisy with high gain it's fine for me, I'm not bitching because it's just the mic jack.
Can you get any sound at all? What program are you using?

In GR3 & 4 i had a little noise but not much really - this was direct into my sound card. The patch & gate depended mainly on the noise.
I also tried using my small practice bass amp's line out as the signal, instead of going straight into the card, and I got a fuller sound & less noise.
My bass amp is flat so it didn't effect the tone of anything, just made it bigger.
I still had no luck in Wavelab, but i didn't really investigate too hard, but i'm just glad it works in Cubase.

Yea GuitarRig3 I can just hear what I'm playing amongst all the other fucking noise going on.It's like as soon as I strike a note the virtual amp/pedal just makes this filthy sound that wont stop.

stop using guitar rig and amplitube and shit like that. there's plenty of free amp sims out there that kick the shit out of them.
LePou's SoloC (Soldano SLO-100 sim)
LePou's Le456 (Engl Powerball sim)
Nick Crow's 8505/7170 (6505/5150 sims I believe)
Onquel's TSE X30 (Engl E530 sim iirc)
AcmeBarGig's entire sim line
etc etc
grab those, kefir/voxengo boogex, some impulses and you're good to go.

sorry, but i just tried all of these & they blew chunks - all sounded like direct inputed fuzzboxes

you didn't forget to use an impulse, did you? it should sound no worse than amplitube/gr/whatever unless you're not using an impulse. dull and lifeless, perhaps, because you're not using a di box to boost the signal to line level - but not "direct inputted fuzzboxes".
this is an example of tss->le456->impulse with minimal postprocessing (I believe he used some eq to smooth the mids and the highs). sounds djenty but thats the tone he was aiming for.

I was just toying around with Amplitube 2 via ASIO4All and I experienced no skipping, no compressed distortion and a pretty decent sound.

Before I try get Amplitude 2 can you comfirm this program is around 23mb in size?Just seems small for a decent plug in.

those sims are just the preamp section of an amp - you need an impulse loader (like voxengo boogex or kefir) and an impulse to get the full effect.
impulses simulate the poweramp and cab section of an amp. basically you mic the cab up and record a sine wave being sent through the poweramp to the cab to get the frequency response of that combo.
some good impulses are the catharsis studios fredman style ones
here.
programs like amplitube/gr etc take care of this with their built-in cab simulation section - which is the same thing, just loading an impulse.
