MABB v6.6.6

I have a problem and am wondering if this has happened to anyone else here.You know the little square part that sits directly against the string when you lock it in?It seems to be fucking stuck so I can't keep the top string in.Once it starts getting tight BAM.Fucking pissing me off..Any similar experiences or suggestions?I may have to get real rough on it,although I'd like not to have to.

and what kind of floyd is it?

Mine isn't a Floyd Rose original.It came on a Warlock Platinum so I assume it's a low end version.It says "licensed under floyd rose pats" on it.But yea,that little square wont budge.

hmm, not really sure what would cause it to get stuck like that. will it move even if you loose the screw behind it?

Nope.The block actually appears to be angled up slightly aswell.Not good.

The screw that holds it in place or the hole in the block might be jammed/worn out. Try taking the screw out and see if you can nudge the little block out and re-seat it. Also take a look at it and the screw to see if it's not worn or anything. Worst case scenario is that you'll need a new lock screw and block, but they're cheap. Licensed floyds are made from low grade metals so they tend to wear out a lot quicker than original or Schaller FR's.



I have a Schaller FR in my 1987 Charvel that says "Made in W. Germany", old as fuck, but still stays in tune.

hey lava, if you have a low tuning should your floyd be level with the guitar or sink back into it a little? i read that it should be level but mine is just a little low and plays/sounds fine

Adjust the springs in the back and it'll level itself out.

one more question, what's the reason for having it even with the body? does it affect tone or anything?

Yeah lots of reasons, it probably facks your intonation up, if it's tilted forwards your action is gonna be sky high, if tilted back it'll probably choke alot of strings and you'll lose range on how far you can pull back on trem, having it off centre can shorten the life span of the blade edge if it's always at an angle etc etc

Yeah having it tilted back could also put unnecessary strain on the strings making them likely to break too.



Also to me it feels like there's less sustain/bass/tone when the bridge is tilted back too much.



The process of using a new tuning/string guage is trial and error, if the bridge tilts back loosen the springs, if it tilts forward(higher tuning or higher string guage) first DETUNE the guitar, then tighten the springs quite a bit, then tune it back up(otherwise you overstretch the strings).

I know how to adjust it, I think I've had problems in the past with the floyd and low tuning and just forgot about it and kept doing it the same way. Never really experienced any problems with it, no string breakage or problems tuning.



I use a light gauge (9-11-16-24w-32-42) and don't tune super low (DGCFAD) I'll be sure to adjust it in the morning though and keep it level from now on.

I've always used 9's, I really dig em'. But I heard you need to add another spring to your floyd if you have a thicker gauge and that it will also higher your action. Since I like a super low action I just stick with the 9gauge.

I agree. I like to feel the whole guitar vibrating when I strike a chord, it feels satisfying and it also sounds better through the amp(more sustain, bass, etc).

i love higher action and thick strings

My first decent guitar had a high action, I really didn't enjoy it. I couldn't solo, it just felt hard to play and tiring, even after years of playing on it.

My guitars have high action and a .68 on my lowest string, sounds meaty as fook but indeed, rock hard to play. I've considered lowering it as i've just taken up lead duties in a project and I can't play lead or solo for shit.

Rhythm sounds awesome with a low action but I'm really into legato and soloing so it was impossible. I can't lower the action on that guitar either because I get bad fret-buzz, it's got some kind of weird off brand Kahler style bridge.

This happened to me



You've most likely tightened it too much and it has split/broken at the very bottom of the block, and therefore is pushing itself outwards to either side, getting stuck in there. Either spent alot of time getting it out or just buy another one of those.....square dealys they go in.
