what does everyone do to help them remember riffs? ya ya guitar pro, but aside from that and recording them, what do you do to help you not forget? I'll sit and play guitar and improv riffs on the spot and write song passages and stuff but as I said a good amount of the time I just improv. I'll remember a riff here and there but most of the time I after I stop playing I can't remember half of the shit I'd just jammed out.

The computer I'm currently stuck with sucks and I'm not even sure if I could run gp on it, and I don't have the cash to buy a recording device. Maybe I just have terrible terrible memory

rote rehearsal, mostly. if it's something i really get into, i sit down for a while and drill that shit until it's second nature.

I just have a freakish memory when it comes to riffs and licks, that's my secret
I think a lot of it has to do with how when I want to learn another band's song, I go the "by ear" route

somewhat this, i usually remember things that stand out to me when i'm jamming
but the absolute best way to remember is to record. buy a tape recorder or a little digital recorder, they cost anywhere from 20-50 bucks and will do the job.
a cheap desktop mic and windows sound recorder get the job done too

i usually play things over and over if i like what ive written and remember them like that.
usually you might forget the details by the next day but then you can evolve it again and again.
plus if you cant remember riffs then they arent good enough anyway.

I'm the type that randomly hums a long a lyric line or a riff from a song during my everyday routine. Been like this since I was a kid and now that I play guitar, said habit actually helps.

If anybody ever steals my phone they will think I'm a right freak; there is fucking tons of recordings of me humming and tapping fingers on desk... either that or a very rich thief
