lecture? nahh, 2z is correct

I'm not talking about that EHX thing, that thing blows, unless you're into harsh overly distorted mess

I'm just speaking of the entire circuit family in general, muffs based on Ram's Head, Triangle, Russian Civil War circuits

Image

they're nothing like the modern day NYC muff and it's variants by EHX, much more clarity, not harsh (unless you want them to be) and they actually have mids!

if you thought about a muff one time before, somewhere down the line you should try one of the many clones of one of the old school circuits out there

many have mids knobs, lots of punch and bite, could easily play stuff like Baroness, black metal, even thrash

it may sound like some shit I made up, but it's true

Sounds really nice. Its actually a really textured tone. Starts of sounding scooped until the brightness of the mids cuts through on the higher notes.

How much?

Re: big muff >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> you

$150 even

it's actually like 3 muffs in one, cause the toggle switch which toggles between different ranges of mids being boosted

I also have a Stomp Under Foot Civil War coming in, I'll be deciding between the two, but I've been digging the Colossus muchly, really dig how it can be super super fuzzy, like an OD, even surprisingly cleans up decently with the guitar volume knob like a fuzz face

all these fuzzes I have are very beastly through my single channel tube amps :xx:

also, if you like a wah, you'll love it, fuzzes love wahs, way more rich than distortion with one

people just need to realize how tight a fuzz can be, also it's fun to say "I like tight muffs"

I really like it. I'm looking to build an alternative sound to my straight-up death metal project and I really like what I could do with this. That would be epic for some super downtuned heaviness.

like most muffs, it can have huge bass, and it loves the bass guitar

I think the reason 90% of you are all like "fuck fuzz lol"

is simply because two reasons, you have never used a good one, and you have never used it correctly with a little gain on your amp

yes, fuzz pedals can have a lot of gain, but they're meant to be used like an OD pedal, NOT a distortion pedal

everything that has a lot of gain shouldn't necessarily be used like a metal zone :santa:

seriously, all you guitar players owe it to yourself to try a nice tight muff with a mids knob, preferably of the civil war variety, plenty of low end, but even stock already has a nice amount of clarity and mids, see early Melvins

got it in only 2 days coming from California with Priority Mail

my lady bought this for me, and I didn't even ask her to, she is a keeper, the pedal and the lady

I think this pedal might have been the fuzz sound in my brain this whole time

this Wren & Cuff Tri Pie 70 is still kicking my ass, sweet sweet tones abound, lotsa clarity, this can really nail lotsa Melvins stuff, so tight but very fuzzy, and Triangle style muffs like this all have a slight lower octave present, the harmonics (no SDMF, not pinch harmonics) literally leap out of this thing

this can be harsh Mudhoney crazy muff, or smooth and silky like Gilmour
what instantly comes to mind is: what exactly do you do with all of these fuzz pedals? chain them together for this ultrabrutal fuzzed out sonic storm? sell the ones you don't like? i picture your room as just having a bunch of fuzz pedals strewn about everywhere :redneck:
all of em have plenty of gain, and I try to not have any that are all that similar, so really it's just whatever flavor I'm seeking at the time and I'll use that one. I have hooked up several and ran em at the same time before though :redneck: actually certain ones stacked together sound rad

but yea I have flipped several of them, when that one comes in I'll have 5, but I have had many more than that total

I've only actually paid for two of them though, since I've reviewed several that I got for free, I traded those for ones I wanted much more :redneck::::::::

box of war is kicking ass :xx::::::::::::::::

I am not much of a fan of Pink Floyd, but all you guitar whores out there who love PF, a civil war type muff is what you want

scoff at the idea ehh? well Gilmour sure likes the idea

have you ever thought of building your own fuzz pedal?

Re: big muff >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> you

Posted: 30 Jun 2012, 00:01
by neckred
yes! I don't have the proper tools though, I'd need to acquire a way better soldering gun

if I built something it'd probably be a Mosrite Fuzzrite, used on the famous "Satisfaction" by the Stones

so, right now the Box of War is my favorite fuzz, can't recommend Wren & Cuff stuff enough

the B.ox of War can nail Melvins tones, but can do a lot more than that, black metal yes! classic rock? yes! whatever the hell you want, and it only has 3 knobs, so how can you dial in a bad sound?
