I'm going to pick up a small, 10" tar drum next week. I like the sound and plan to use it in some songs.

Very similar to an Irish bodhran.

Whoa, yeah same frame drum sort of thing, eh? They probably sound pretty similar then, I imagine.

The bodhran is played quite differently. With a double sided stick and a weird flick of the wrist. Theres lots of really close connection with ancient Ireland and Africa. The arghul (think opener to blck seeds) sound identical to the uillean pipes. A lot of the artistic motifs are similar too. There must be an ancient connection.
