Our guitar players are going through packs of strings like fucking mad. They insist on using those goddamn Ernie Ball slinkys but they keep breaking/unwounding in the saddles where their palms rest. Are Ernie Balls worthless enough to require replacing every two weeks or are these kids just palm-muting too hard?

My Ernie Balls have been there since August of last year. Though I've got a pack of Elixir Nanowebs handy, I still see no reason to change the Ernie Balls as they still stay in tune and still sound great.

i've had the same ernie ball strings on my guitar for months and they haven't broken. (i jam pretty hard, heh, hard)

Sure they don't need to file down the bridge?

i always broke the strings at the bridge with ernie balls, i filed my saddles down though and it helped a bit. i know guitarists who use them and always have the same problems.



now i use a different brand and i have broken a string in years, i play pretty hard too.

D'Addario is the proper way.

i've used nothing but ernie balls since i started playing, never had those kinds of problems. all of my breaks are either on really old strings, from playing too hard, or from doing something really dumb during restringing. i think the current strings on my RG570 have been in place for over a year, i may change them simply because they sound so dull

word. They never break. I hadn't changed the ones on my charvel for over a year and they still felt/sounded great.



I rather like the feel of old strings.

I've had the same strings on for at least a year, until I changed 'em last week. Just love listening to the way new D'Addario strings sound, really should change strings like at least once a month.

I use ein Elixirs a year and a half and lots of galloping, haven't broken one yet.



And I mentioned some of the things suggested here to mein guitarists and they fell on deaf ears. They bought another pack of strings each and Monday, at practice, one of them broke a string not two hours after replacement



I really need to find some more seasoned players to jam with because these kids are just not getting it. One of them keeps leaving their kintar with active pickups plugged in, killing the 9-volt every single time. The other hard-on bearer never un-knots his cord and leaves it a tangled mess on the floor, getting walked on and tripped over constantly or forcefully yanked out of the amp head.

what type of bridge are they using? If it's a floyd or something it may be them but more than likely a saddle issue.

Tune-o-matic bridges on an Epiphone Les Paul and an SG copy. I told them to file the saddles down but all I got was "WELL, I thought I'd try x kind of strings and it's just cuz I play hard cuz the riffs r so metal and blahblahblah..." and pretty much just tuned me out (no pun intended) and kept playing.



Decent players and all but they're a bunch of FUCKIN' amateurs.

tell them to switch to those string saver saddles, they'll probably make the money back in a month

Oh that's some fucking bullshit then. I have a tune-o-matic style bridge on my Jackson SLSMG and I have not had any problems with it being that type of bridge or from the saddle or anything. They are fucking retards. Kick em out and let me bring the slamz
