Dead Engl :(

I have an old Engl E625 that has bit the dust. It worked perfectly fine and the all of a sudden won't switch on, doesn't seem to be getting any power.

I've swapped internal fuses, tubes and tried a different power cable to no avail.

Upon closer inspection the output-transformer, or what I presume to be (big black box?), has a strange abnormality, almost like it has a burn mark and it looks warped.

My guess is that this part has died as it is the only physical issue I can see.

How easy would it be to replace this? Is it a matter of just finding out what voltage to use and replace? Will the amp experiance any tonal difference?

I'll most likely take it to a repair shop, but being where I live I suspect they will not have encountered many guitar amps (other than cheap shite) and fear they won't have a clue...

My immediate reaction to the thread was this, but :bigblackdolphin: took precedent.

The electrician shop got back in touch, it is indeed the transformer that's died. He said he can't find a replacement and he even "rang germany" () and they couldn't help him.

I'm not prepared to just let this thing die, so I'll have to be looking at amp repair guys. Anybody had any experience? :homework:

YES!!! I emailed Engl a while back and got told that 'Music Force Distribution' was the people in the UK to talk about ordering replacement parts. Gave them a shout and they are gonna order me the part :greenie:

Can't wait until it's fixed and I can put my poor man's rack of doom back together.
