Reaper is the best app available for the price (free for the first 30 days, then it kindly asks you to buy a like $30 or $60 license, but you can just hit "no" and be on your way to opening a project.)
oh don't think i haven't used sound recorder before
it just gets a bit difficult when you write layered guitar parts and want to hear how they sound together
Reaper is alright. Cubase is really awesome though. Get over the sard and use it!

Get Reaper, its basically free(sans a 4 second nag screen) and has all the features most people will ever need. It is basically cubase (probably easier) but it doesn't take 1gb+ of your harddrive or require a "very good" computer to work well.
reaper has been downloaded. now i just need to figure this ish out as the recording volume is waaaaaaaay loud.
Use the gain slider on the track, or check your soundcard input level by going to options>audio device and opening its control panel from there.
