Spec-wise it is the twin of my explorer 7 only with a different shape. Maple set-(thru) neck with rosewood board. (I prefer the sound of rosewood over maple/ebony) rosewood head-cap and SwampAsh body. Two DiMarzio's with only a volume pot and mini toggle. LoProEdge bridge with Kahler Top-lock (integrated stringbar) and (experimental) very lightweight open gear machine heads for reduced weight at the head. All the hardware is Chrome. It is gonna be a solid color though I am still partial between two colors: Ferrari red and a dark metallic grey. I want it to have a very old-school ('83) look from before the black hardware period.



After i got the Explorer i sold my Les Paul and Flying V to be able to order this one.

Why specifically that period? Most folks would want a pre CBS strat.

Played an RG2228, WOW!! Absolutely amazing! Dependin on the rig though sometimes the low F# sounds shitty but what I really would wanna do is set it up with a High A string for some badass shredding

I have one of those. I wouldn't recommend that guitar for a high A. If you want to do high A, you're probably better off going with a 25.5" scale guitar or a multiscale. Usually you put a .008 or smaller on for a high A on a 25.5" scale guitar. But when you go to 27", string tension gets larger given the same pitch and same string gauge. So it'll be killer for your low strings, but you'd have to put an even thinner string than a 0.008 on for the high A. I think ESP/LTD makes a 25.5" 8 string.



I'm having a multiscale 8-string built right now. Being made by Adam Bath of Elysian Custom Guitars, a local builder here in Dallas.

It's 27" on the low side and 25.5" on the high side. So you get string tension on the high side along the lines of what you'd get on a typical 6-string electric, and on the low side where you need the extra tension (so you won't have to use insanely fat strings) you get that baritone scale length.



Rosewood board, flamed maple/purpleheart rosewood neck, asymmetrical neck carve (bass side is fatter than treble side), Hipshot locking tuners, custom fixed bridge, swamp ash body. Custom Nordstrand pickups, one volume, one three way toggle.

I'm not that fond of the body shape but it hase some cool features. The offset octave dots look cool. As does the (I guess) jack placement. And the heelcarve is awesome. I like your choice of woods.

I would get absolutely just shit lost with that many bloody strings.



As far as the topic goes, I wouldn't mind a Blackmachine.

I would love a black machine. Sexiest guitars to my eyes.

Thanks. Yep, that cut is for the jack. Allows for the angled jack like on the UV, but also allows you to use those neutrik locking jacks apparently. This guitar is super light...without hardware or frets, it's only 4.5 lbs. Going to stain it black, then quickly clean it up so that only the grain pattern will keep the black color. Then stain the whole thing a very light gray, then do a black burst, but only on the very edges. On the clear coat, he's not going to fill the pores first, so you'll be able to still feel the grain of the wood even with the clear coat on it. Got a pretty cool first fret mother of pearl inlay coming, as well. I am beyond excited. It's my first custom.



If it comes out as great as I'm hoping, I'm considering this shape (or a slightly tweaked version) for next year:







Kind of like an Iceman, but without the dick-looking thing for the horn. I think it'll look killer as an 8-string.



I also just scored a US custom shop Warlock with spalted maple top. Unfortunately I can't find the pic...waiting for it to ship. I mention because on my list of "if it were free" was always a USA custom Warlock. Had an NJ series as a kid, had to sell it to buy a drum machine. Always wanted to have one again, but experience taught me that these days only the really expensive BC Rich guitars are good. SO I found a really expensive one for an awesome price. Will post pics when I get it.



Your Explorer sounds intriguing. I had never heard of someone doing the LPE bridge with a Kahler top lock. What's the benefit? I have never had a Kahler. LPE on both of my UVs of course, and some other OFR copy on a Yamaha I still have. Which DiMarzios? I've used the Blaze pickups, X2N-7, and Air Norton 7. Think the Blaze neck + X2N-7 was my favorite combo for passives.

The Kahler lock i choose is almost like a floyd lock. Only the retainer bar is integrated in the nut itself. Also the pads have less room to move and you can use both a allen key or screwdriver to bolt it shut. It is attached with 4 screws as opposed to two. I use the Blaze and AirNorton pups.







It's translucent grey though hard to see. The backside is clearer to see as opposed to the bubinga top.

It is filled, you just see the grain through the paint.

Looks killer!

There's a website called octave4plus and they make strings up to .004 if im not mistaken take a look at a video on YouTube called marshall Harrison 8 string schecter where he talks about them and play it. Very cool indeed!

Yeah, I mean, you can do it. Just saying if you specifically want to go high A there's easier/better ways to do it. It's a lot easier/cheaper to come by an .008 string than a .007. I use a .0085 for the top string of my 8-strings (It's an Eb for me, though).
