As per the recommendation of my kintarist friends and after much research and revision of decisions and such, I have settled on this and I actually found a pretty good deal for it.

Not too bad... those bridges are pretty terrible though (unless Ibanez have improved quality), I had the 7-string version for my first decent guitar and it used to pop strings like a splendid mate of mine on the saddles which developed sharp edges after x-amount of time.

Yep, RG321MH.

My RG170 would pop strings now and then, but my RG420 has yet to do so.

if that's the same bridge as the one the 7321 then yeah it's pretty bad. nice pick for a starter guitar though definitely. make your next an RG prestige

You can search them on ebay too with product code PS-8000-00. Once you have those replace the saddles that you know have on that RG to these. Like Derek hinted above that bridge can make you want to stop playing guitar quite quickly. This is an easy enhancement to improve your playing feel and it is something that you can do yourself =)

Danke, mate. Yeah I've heard reports on its not-so-good bridge as well. I shall follow said advice.

Oh well, it was a decent guitar and served it's purpose. I now have the big brother 7620.

Just got this baby last night and man this thing screams. Plays wonderful and better than that Les Paul my fellating lover lent to me a while back. fruital distortion too, with the mahogany body, fixed bridge and dual humbucker setup although I'll try to get some replacement saddles as said.

i'm definitely with you on the playability vs. LP's though. i like 'em a lot, but they're just too fat and bulky which does not agree with my diminutive proportions

I noticed that the headstock didn't have the white binding just like the catalog pictures.



Just had a luthier set it up last week in low action in E-flat with Ernie Ball Super Slinky 10s. Stays in tune very well although graph tech saddles will come in the near future, mayhaps some good locking tuners as well and of course, EMG 81/85 pickups.

my suggestion would be to hold off on the EMG's and locking tuners and whatnot. for the amount of time/money you'd spend on those, that's already a good ways toward being able to upgrade to a nicer instrument with decent pickups and a locking trem!

Floyds I'll probably take up an interest in said sometime in the future but even that looks grim and fixed bridge is where it's at for me for the time being.



Those upgrades are subject to change so no worries although I seem to have everything I want or need in this guitar so far. This is one of the few RGs with the mahogany body/dual humbucker/fixed bridge setup. The only better RG I can think of is the RGT6EXFX.

Don't spoil your mahogany with EMG's.

Was just going to say that. Seymour Duncan Blackouts ftw. If you decide to stay with passives, DiMarzio X2N and Air Norton. Maybe even a Dimebucker in the bridge, I had one in an old Yamaha and it sounded awesome.

I looked at some guitars at a guitar shop. I tried three guitars: the Dean Dave Mustaine signature guitar, the ESP/LTD Okkultist (Silenoz signature) and an ESP Viper. All of them were good guitars to play but the Dean Dave Mustaine guitar was the least that I liked. It had Duncan Livewire pickups. The two ESPs were pretty much the same in terms of overall fun to play. The Silenoz sig was equipped with blackouts while the Viper was equipped with EMGs. The amp head and cab were both ENGL but I don't have much knowledge in amps so I didn't bother to read their models.



Personally, I prefer the tone of the EMGs over the blackouts so yeah overall I prefer the Viper over the Silenoz sig. The blackouts, while definitely a metal pickup, is just a bit too 'warm' and therefore 'kind' for my tastes. The EMGs were definitely more fruital for me and much more 'colder' and more 'evil'. I actually like that 'sterile', 'nihilistic' sound that I get from EMGs although the hard-on bearer at the shop said that's actually what people don't like in EMGs. He did say that it has been a long running tradition that every metal noob guitarist always starts out as a fan of EMGs because they just want that pure, no non-sense straightforward brutality that only the EMG 81 can deliver but then it is also normal for guitarists to progress beyond just wanting a fruital tone and this is when they start looking at other pickups so he said that I may change my mind later on.

the hard-on bearer at the shop is a pretty sharp fella, i'd say
