I'd love to see a video with a close-up on the fretboard if anyone can. I'm trying to learn from tabs but they aren't very reliable.

Please :thingy:

i've messed around with it a few times but never really sat down to learn it. it doesn't sound very difficult to play :interessant:

I'm still building up the endurance in my arm to get to the point where alternating between palm mutes and open strings while picking quickly in patterns doesn't tire my arm the fuck out for a whole day. :tear:

I have zero problems with Altars stuff, but this hyper picking kills my arm :shakefist:

I can play it :santa:

I can also play Curse the Flesh, enshrined by grace, stricken arise, place of many deaths, god of our own divinity.

but I haven't played these songs in a very long time... few years ago i was able to play formulas and gateways in their entirety. i could still do it but i'd have to learn many of the songs over again,

:xx:

I tabbed a Nifelheim song there an age ago as sku11fukkr. It's too bad they got harassed into pulling a lot of their tabs, but it was cool to see how many bands gave them the ok after.

Very cool. Did you try out for the 2nd geetar replacement? My roommate thought about it - he has perfect pitch so their material is nothing to him - but he figured he didn't have the look for it (a pale, short haired hard-on bearer like me).

There's more to playing Morbid Angel than perfect pitch.

yeah I always played the solos, but they werent really perfect. just my own interpretations.

i did figure out the solo to nothing is not, and the ones in ageless still i am.

also the tapping stuff in prayer of hatred, invocation of the continual one and summoning redemption.

Oh I know. Trey even mentioned all that stuff about grabbing chords and whatnot. In his case it was more of a "why not?" situation. But he did mention how difficult it is to get Trey's exact style down, because it's such a unique sound.

I used to be able to play the lava on cleansed in pestilence as well as the whole song. i forgot some of it but what i really wanna learn is the first solo in invocation the second is pretty straight forward but the first one if you listen to the tone of it is just insane. summoning redemtpion is another that i can play with all leads. trey and erik have by far some of the best and most fun to play solos in all of death metal :greenie: :greenie: :greenie: :greenie: :greenie: :greenie: :greenie: :greenie: :greenie: :greenie: :greenie: :greenie: :greenie: :greenie: :greenie: :jizz: :god: :god: :god: :god: :bang: :brushteeth: :krinor: :krinor:......actually just a couple days ago i learned existo all the way through with the solo as well as nevermore but i cant seem to learn that lead :ra: :wall:

I really want to see the finger movements on the main riffs. Tabs are shite, the song on the record is hard to make out the exact picking patterns and notes, and the live video on YouTube is off focusing on stuff that's not Trey :homework:

its weird.ive noticed trey usually makes it harder for himself. for instance in WTSL he plays the riff wow chug chug woooww chug chug chug woow chug chug wooow wiiiioooowww!!! on the E and B right but when he play the chig chog chig chugga chug cheee cheed chug chug chug...ok fuck this 00:01 to 00:16 is on the 1 and 2 on the E and then 3 and 2 on the low B then basically 00:17 to 00:26 is basically the same note or maybe a half up or down yet he goes up on the low b when he could save energy and play it on the E. even on like immortal rights he could play it easier on the A yet moves up the low E to play it. its hard to explain but like lets say on TIOTCO at somewhere near 08:00 he plays the part alone and he plays it at like the 13 and up higher on the low E when he could play it on like the 4 somewhere else. maybe he likes the lower register even though its the same exact note?!?! idk very confusing hes a very unique guitar player in every way possible!

If you listen to your guitar, you will notice that although the notes are the same. The sound is different. The thicker or thinner strings make difference. We play with that all the time. A fretted note on a lower string sounds fuller than the same note (or open string) on a higer string. It is not a question of easier but what sounds better for a part. The difference is very audible.
