its weird.ive noticed trey usually makes it harder for himself. for instance in WTSL he plays the riff wow chug chug woooww chug chug chug woow chug chug wooow wiiiioooowww!!! on the E and B right but when he play the chig chog chig chugga chug cheee cheed chug chug chug...ok fuck this 00:01 to 00:16 is on the 1 and 2 on the E and then 3 and 2 on the low B then basically 00:17 to 00:26 is basically the same note or maybe a half up or down yet he goes up on the low b when he could save energy and play it on the E. even on like immortal rights he could play it easier on the A yet moves up the low E to play it. its hard to explain but like lets say on TIOTCO at somewhere near 08:00 he plays the part alone and he plays it at like the 13 and up higher on the low E when he could play it on like the 4 somewhere else. maybe he likes the lower register even though its the same exact note?!?! idk very confusing hes a very unique guitar player in every way possible!
If you listen to your guitar, you will notice that although the notes are the same. The sound is different. The thicker or thinner strings make difference. We play with that all the time. A fretted note on a lower string sounds fuller than the same note (or open string) on a higer string. It is not a question of easier but what sounds better for a part. The difference is very audible.
Also you get that chaotic slidey sound if your hand is moving about the same string at warp speed. Or I do anyhoo.

Yeah like when I first learned hellspawn I was confused as to how he got that sound and realized it was only on the low E not A and E letting me slide and play super fast :fonz:

Same notes, different tone and feel in different parts of the neck. Definitely part of getting "a sound"...

EDIT: sorry, let me also add something else. The riff at around :17 contains the slide into 2nd octave Bb [7th fret, 6th string], so from the economical viewpoint,

he is actually already there. But yea, there is also the texture thing too...
