I am glad I saw Heaven and hell on Graspop a few years back.

I'm not particulary a fan but it was a very high quality performance that really got me into it.

Suggesting that it's somehow all right that he died because he's in an afterlife is the pinnacle of disrespect. It's not all right. He is gone. His wife will never see him again. The world will never hear him sing again. The loss is a tragedy to a lot of people, and suggesting that he is anything but dead is childish. The man was a giant, and the world is poorer for his loss.

If someone wants to believe that he's starting a Nickleback cover band with Cliff Burton, so what? Why does someone musing on the possibility offend you so much? If nothing else they are painting themselves an enjoyable picture to honor, and perhaps ease the feelings of loss of the respected dead.

Umm...I was merely adding on to a somewhat lighthearted, whimsical post, and suggested a drummer in the spirit of the post--I was by no means disrespecting Ronnie--he was a GOD.

You're being inconsistent. You're saying afterlife talk is irrelevant, while defending people suggesting it exists. Don't you see the problem with that? You're giving out because people claimed there is no afterlife, but have no problem with people saying there is. And the people who said there wasn't didn't even bring it up.



If you have such a problem with people mentioning the afterlife in a thread about someone dying, then why is it only the responses that say it doesn't exest that tick you off?

I didn't say you were.

I just realised it was me who brought up the afterlife.

Normally, you bring some humorous fun, Tam, but whenever the subject of death and religion come up, you just shit it all up. The fact that there is no afterlife and dead is dead is dead makes it a true tragedy that Dio and all the respected aforementioned are dead. This is why it is sad and why they are honored rather than only missed. It would not be as sad an event were there some afterlife wherein all of our respected musicians are jamming. That would just be awesome. Unfortunately, it is not true. That fact makes it no dishonor nor disrespect to the deceased to acknowledge that they are, in fact, deceased. Quite the contrary, really.



Like Gleeso said, to state that there is no afterlife is no different than stating that there is, in the context of this thread. However, we don't see you pissing and blatting about the pro-afterlife statements. It almost strikes me as if you have trouble emotionally handling the concept of those you love and/or respect not continuing on in some ethereal sense after death. It is as if the notion, when mentioned in conversational vicinity of the event, that they just do not exist anymore, that they do not love and hate and feel and see and hear etc. is more than you can handle, so you act out against the mention of it. Do not be embarrassed. That is a very, very common reaction. Still, deal with it.

Wendy Dio, wife/manager of legendary heavy metal singer Ronnie James Dio (DIO, HEAVEN & HELL, BLACK SABBATH, RAINBOW), has released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:



"Today my heart is broken, Ronnie passed away at 7:45 a.m. [on Sunday] 16th May. Many, many friends and family were able to say their private goodbyes before he peacefully passed away.

"Please give us a few days of privacy to deal with this terrible loss.



"Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever."



It was only a month ago that Dio, 67, spoke about his battle with cancer with the Artisan News Service on the "black carpet" of the Revolver Golden Gods Awards, which took place on April 8 at Club Nokia in downtown Los Angeles. When asked about how he had been feeling since he was diagnosed with the disease late last year, Dio said, "Well, I feel good and bad at times. It's a long process. Chemotherapy is a... I never realized what a difficult thing it was to go through. It's a real cumulative effect — the more you have, the more it piles up on top and it takes longer and longer to get over it. I find it very difficult to eat. I don't like to eat anyway, so I guess that's OK. But I know I have to. But this makes it very, very hard. But if you're determined to beat it, then you have to go with what you believe is going to beat it for you, and in this case it's that. I go to a great hospital in Houston called M.D. Anderson, which I think is the best hospital in the world, I have the best doctor in the world, Dr. Ajani, who I really trust and I really believe in, so I think I've done all the right things. It makes me feel positive about my life and positive that there is a lot more of it to live."



Earlier this month, HEAVEN & HELL canceled its summer tour plans in Europe due to Dio's treatment for stomach cancer. The band said in a statement that Dio wasn't "well enough to tour this summer. We hope that everyone understands and want to thank fans and industry colleagues for their continuing support at this time."



Born Ronald James Padavona in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Ronnie James Dio had performed with ELF, RAINBOW, BLACK SABBATH, and his own band DIO. Other musical projects included the collective fundraiser "Hear 'n Aid". He is widely hailed as one of the most powerful singers in heavy metal, renowned for his consistently powerful voice and for popularizing the "devil's horns" hand gesture in metal culture. He was most recently involved with HEAVEN & HELL, a project which also included former BLACK SABBATH bandmates Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Vinny Appice. Their first and only studio album, "The Devil You Know", was released on April 28, 2009.



In April, Dio appeared at the Revolver Golden Gods Awards in Los Angeles to accept the award for "Best Vocalist." As members of ALICE IN CHAINS presented the award to him, the crowd chanted, "Dio! Dio! Dio! Dio!"

No one claimed it to be absolute truth. You can't claim anything to be absolute truth. For all practical purposes the afterlife "does not exist". Technically we cannot disprove the claim that the world is actually cube shaped. Can you prove people didn't fuck up every observation/experiment/etc and coincidentally come to the same erroneous conclusion that the world is round? Can you technically, 100%, absolutely, prove that hasn't happened? No, you can't. But anyone who takes the idea seriously is a very sick puppy.
