MABB v6.6.6

I tend to think that maybe they were the only good nu metal band, not superficial, and had authenticity in them. I've also found the most affinity for the Untouchables album. What do you think?

I was a big fan at one time. I think the biggest I was into korn was probably around 99/00. Then listening to them just fizzled out

Of course there has been times when I listened since just not regularly. I checked out all their albums that came out through the years, thought some songs were cool, but I'd always move on to something else

Issues is probably my favorite, more straight forward rock songs

one of my favorite teenage bands. after untouchables i didn't bother anymore but i still really like to jam the early stuff. favorite albums are follow the leader and issues

First 2 and probably half of follow the leader. Everything else is could give a fuck less about.

A few OK songs on the later albums but yes I echo this general statement

They were my least-liked nu-metal band back when I was listening it, mainly because of Jonathan Davis. Really couldn't stand the hard-on bearer.

Though I did like a few tracks from their debut and a couple from Follow the Leader.

when they first burst onto the scene they would rather unique for sure. those first four albums are actually quite heavy and their live shows were nuts back then too.
also, I remember hearing that all of those early albums were fueled by crystal meth and cocaine

i loved the debut when i was like 11 or 12 or however old i was when it came out and was the heaviest thing going on the radio, but this falls squarely into the 'childhood releases i do not need to revisit as an adult' category. it is music for children

nu-metal revisionism continues to be weird and wrong and i think fueled by a combination of people who were too young to be there and people who had to spend a couple decades biding their time to reassert their wrong opinions

I also find it weird that kids today are enjoying this nu metal revisionism and none of them are wearing elephant pants and/or are sporting chain wallets and bead necklaces.

damn, philippines missed the whole "y2k" revival in fashion i guess. big pants have been back in a major way for a while now! we're probably only a year or two out from the hedi slimane eating disorder look having another go around

they were nu-metal before "nu-metal" was a thing. whatever their popularity and mainstream appeal became, they started off as unique in their own right before all the copycats arrived on the scene. not saying they invented it (FNM and RATM and others certainly had influence there), but they definitely made that sound more mainstream. Korn never really stopped being an arena band once they achieved that level - which says a lot I think.

as for nu-metal revival - it's not as popular as one might allude to. most of those revival tours have been subject to playing tiny dive bars underselling even underground metal tours in most markets. and rightfully so, because most of those bands were never good to begin with. the only areas where they stand out is when they get billed on some big festivals. the only thing they have going for them is nostalgia at this point.

one band that I do find interesting that has had a bit of a revival and uhhh... new found respect(?) among metal heads is Limp Bizkit. they were fucking hated by a lot of people back in the day, especially by metalheads, but now they seem to get a lot of praise from fans and musicians alike. that one I don't get.

yeah as far as the tour itineraries are concerned that has been my observation as well. when i speak to revival/revisionism etc it's less about a big commercial resurgence and more your latter case with limp bizkit, on the 'people who ought to know better are singing its praises' end of things

Limp Bizkit is shit. And maybe Linkin Park was the most shit.

Also I'm not out to say I've become a fan boy of Korn for fucks sake. I'm just bored with listening to the old metal over and over again and when I absolutely ran out of options I turned on some Korn. In other words they are the last thing I'd have listened to given the choice and that should tell you something. I'll listen to them for a bit, eventually a feeling of disgust will catch on that I'm listening to faggy music, and I'll move on. Let me pump those tunes for a bit and spare me the revisionism lecture please, you assholes.

i could never get into slipknot other than a song or two. the clean vocal sections pussify every song that is supposed to be tough and dark

crazy thing is if you took the vocals out of slipknot songs the music itself is actually heavy as fuck.
I remember hanging out at mutual friends place that would often have jam parties and they played a bunch of slipknot songs with just guitar, bass, and drums (as best as a bunch of teenagers could lol) - if you didn't know what it was you'd think they were blasting out death metal on some of those songs.

I owned a korn cd but never really got into it as a kid, i think limp bizkit are the ultimate nu metal band, best guitarist in wes

if we count slipknot though then it would be them, IOWA is a classic metal album and its so dark and heavy, not sure id consider it nu metal. its fucking evil

I still jam some Korn on occasion. First album, most of Follow the Leader, and Issues are all good times.

But Jesus H. Christ, some of their albums from the mid to late 00's were godawful.
