Still my favorite of their 'new' albums. Just the right mix of tracks incorporating their 80s glory and the Load era.
Hardwired is my favorite 'new' Metallica song.

It's way better than 72 Seasons, but DM is wayyy better than both. If only it was more listenable, and the production didn't sound like barbed wire razors, DM would have been up there with their best.
I was pretty disappointed with the singles, and it was the same when the album dropped. Incredibly forgettable (I don't remember a song other than maybe Lux Aeterna's chorus), and that 11 minute closer, which I was looking forward to, ended up being such a dud, sadly.
Someone also needs to put Kirk in his seat and force him to write a good solo again. hard-on bearer auto-piloted himself through the whole thing.

Yeah, both albums would have benefitted with more input from kirk. I know he lost his phone with all of his riffs and Solos during hardwired, and I have a feeling 72 seasons was mostly written by james and lars as well. I haven't bought either, so I haven't really checked out writing credits

That thing with the phone is most likely bullshit, I think.

this is a good metallica album and 72 is aswell, ok so not as good as the load stuff (its good) or the old thrash stuff (AJFA) BUT they are having fun with it
as a huge fan of metallica, i dont really care about the new stuff, its great fun to listen too but its clear they are looking at the bands that influenced them in the 70s? good for them.
