i installed a VPN to listen to it early starting at midnight sydney time yesterday and have probably already listened to it a dozen times :redneck::::::

already got the vinyl preordered, and toby's writeup for the new album has me so fucking psyched, well worth a read imo

AOTY easy and there is nothing that will come within a hundred miles of it

LP came in early, this album is unlike anything else on earth. but it defies repeat or compulsive listening in a very unique way. easily the most interesting record in their career, and that's saying an awful lot. as i predicted

It's incredibly hard listening this, and I've heard all of their albums and like quite a few of them along with Toby's solo work.

This though...dunno.

i saw kayo dot once and the vocalist begged the audience to buy merch and that's all i can think about because it felt sad

well it's definitely a challenging listen and i don't think a particularly intuitive one. i don't know the context you listened in, but my recommendation to get the most out of it is if you didn't already, read the album announcement i linked earlier first to get a feel for what they're driving at. sit and think on that for a bit, even! grab the lyrics before you sit down with it, and shut out all other distractions - no screens, no other people, nothing, and do it during a time when you can devote your full attention and chastise yourself silently if you catch your mind wandering.

the universally-beloved albums are choirs of the eye and hubardo, both of which i think are pretty approachable for any metal-adjacent person. the previous album, moss grew on the swords and plowshares alike, is also a pretty easy introduction for metal people and a personal favorite.

bands that can maintain a coherent identity through vastly changing styles while managing to never release anything worse than 'pretty great' do something special to my brain

weezer are basically the perfect inverse of this dynamic

Coffins on Io is my favourite of theirs. I just love the sound. Postpunk/New Wave/80's Synthpop-infused, and this track is what I listen to a lot. Like, a LOT. Such a haunting piece.
