the band just announced his passing on august 16th, his 54th birthday. don't normally get too bent out of shape over 'celeb' deaths but this one hits really hard. he's been one of the constant pillars of the band and played an outsized role in their constant transformations after natten's madrigal. fucking hell this sucks

He was instrumental in how the band sounded. Hoping they bounce back.
This is currently my favorite Ulver record of the newer, less bm, version of the band. I've said I'm not into the newer stuff, but, I'm getting into it....slowly.

Yo, jawn. Is Messe worth listening to, or, should i skip to their electronic dance music? Their subject matter is the driving force as to why I listen.

messe is exceptional and i would highly recommend it, yes. in general the best way to approach them is to just go through the discography in chronological order, if you want to stick with just the essentials you can skip childhood's end, the sunn collab and the riverhead OST. i think pretty much everything else is very, very well worth listening to.
i must take exception to characterizing their synthpop trio as EDM however, which beyond being uncharitable is also just factually incorrect (the closest cousin would probably be the metamorphosis EP, but that's an enormous stretch too)

I would agree Messe is up there for me, Perdition is a classic album
I am a big enjoyer of julius caeser too
Agreed with going through things in order, its probably easier than explaining what is what with Ulver, they jumped about a bit at the start but they have a real growth between things.
