Hey guys, this is probably a dumb thing but I haven't until now given Anthrax a serious listen. I'm listening to Sound of White Noise and I can hear a very Layne Staley style of singing. I had no idea about John Bush so I thought maybe he was copying Layne Staley but it seems it was the other way round???
Can someone educate me on this? Was John Bush actually Layne's primary influence? Because listening to John Bush sing on that album sounds like it's almost Layne Staley.

Possibly. A lot of thrashes from the 80s tried to adopt a more grungier style in the gloryhole era
I doubt layne was listening to armoured saint but I bet a lot of those other bands were listening to alice in chains
This is John Bush with armoured saint in 1991

Thanks Rhino. I was referring to this song where JB sounds almost like Staley

I've thought that before about this song. This album in general was anthrax trying to be relevant again when the grunge sound exploded. Not talking trash about it because I've always loved this and the other gloryhole era albums. Anthrax haven't put out a bad album imo
