most "worshipped" bands in death metal

i'm thinking of bands that clearly worship another band, not just a light influence in the songs but a very clear imitation. which death metal bands have spawned the most copycats, etc?
carcass is the first band i think of, there are so many grind/death metal bands that started out sounding just like them either in their grind phase or melodic phase. and of course there are tons of morbid angel and cannibal corpse worship bands

If you wanna look at the grind world there's quite a few nasum worship bands.

kinda wild to realize that morbid angel's last output as the kind of band that could be an object of worship is about to turn 20
maybe this is the dividing line between youth and being old as fuck, remembering morbid angel as a vital force versus experiencing them as a mostly-spent force

yeah that's kind of interesting to think about. eventually newer bands won't be as inspired by the legends we know and love. maybe the osdm/revival/worship is kind of a good thing to keep those old vibes alive or maybe not.
we're nearly at the end of our run for the big guys like morbid, cannibal, etc, we've already lost slayer. also times are different, there are so many fucking bands popping up all the time now. the barrier to entry is gone as well as all the old gatekeeping.

right? but the newer/younger crowds don't care because they don't know or also maybe just don't care. sanguisugabogg for example, i'm over here thinking "how does this band have any fans, this is the weakest 'slam' i've ever heard". maybe it's just old elitist mentality or gatekeeping but the barrier to entry really is gone and to me it feels like the overall quality of "extreme music" has gone down but people don't seem to care. there are so many fucking bands now that maybe it doesn't matter anymore. it's the same way with all media these days, everything is just becoming CONTENT, fuck art, fuck effort

What the kids 'worship' nowadays as death metal are deathcore bands whose members all have big holes on their ears.
Skinner mentioned Suffocation - this was true around 10-20 years ago when we got some really good Suffo-clones like Inveracity and Disavowed. But even that changed when the whole djent/extended-range-guitar movement came along.
I do believe that the era of 'worshipped' bands is coming to an end (or has it already ended). Metallica just came at the right time as that era was when people were hungry for bands whose posters they would have on their walls and when people actually cared about collecting albums and such. People nowadays treat music like a can of soda that they just got from a vendo machine - a quick respite after which they will get rid of that can very quickly. Today's music lovers have very short attention spans.

i've heard that band described as merchcore, apparently at one point they had more t-shirts for sale than they did songs recorded. a band whose output seems incidental, mostly just there to build a brand. "content" churned out by "creatives", noooo fucking thank you. i decided i hated them before i knew any of that (stupid name) but nothing else i've learned since then has convinced me it's worth a shot

Also, I am kind of confused by the general sentiment in this thread. Nobody is forcing you to listen to bands worshiping old styles, and in fact I really don't think many bands pull this off anyhow. I'll take originality over a bunch of copycats - hell, even taking an old style and giving it a new spin, not necessarily a bad thing.

i originally just wanted to discuss bands that started off as "worship" bands but got sidetracked and started grumbling about things i don't like because i was in a weird mood
i'm always looking at metal bands through the eyes of someone who has a deep love of guitar. it's such a creative instrument and yet so many guys are putting in minimal effort. there are still plenty of bands doing great creative things, i just want to see more of it. i hate to see such brain dead guitar playing in a genre that was built on awesome guitaring.
as for band worship, i think it's fine for at most one or two albums, after that you should have transitioned into your own sound. also i would love to see more bands change things up album to album. i don't need you to release the same album multiple times (looking at you cattle decap).
