i would go to a pantera show if they only played the few songs i like

Honestly, yeah its cool they are doing it, but it doesn't make me explode with excitement or anything, and a lot of that just has to do with i'm just not that big as a pantera fan anymore. They were a big part of my growing up and my growing musical journey, but its had its time and place and so did this tribute that so many people have been talking about through out the years. If they did it with vinnie while he was still alive and they were all a bit younger than yeah it could have meant a lot more

This. Obviously, the whole affair reeks of a cash grab. Looks like it's we're in for something along the lines of Sepultura without the Cavaleras.

There are plenty of band members who may seem irreplaceable but In reality they are completely replaceable. However some bands you just cannot do this when said members are quite literally the soul of the band. You can’t have Van Helen without Eddie, Morbid Angel without Trey, Death without Chuck, or Pantera without Dime. It’s fine if Phil wants to do something like this but don’t pretend that it’ll be Pantera.

Zakk Wylde & Anthax’s Charlie Benante Rumored For 2023 Pantera Reunion Tour

It would appear that live replacements are in mind for the beloved Abbott Brothers when it comes next year’s Pantera reunion touring. It was revealed yesterday that vocalist Phil Anselmo and bassist/vocalist Rex Brown would be getting the acclaimed multi-platinum groove metal band back together for a round of 2023 touring, with a North American tour currently confirmed.

However, it was not specified who would be filling the shoes of the group’s late brotherly duo of guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott and drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott. According to Blabbermouth.net, legendary guitarist Zakk Wylde of Black Label Society/Ozzy Osbourne fame and drummer Charlie Benante of Anthrax are reportedly being eyed as their live replacements.

Both were long-term friends of the band and the Abbott brothers. Thus far there has been no official announcement yet regarding the lineup and dates for the trek outside of Anselmo and Brown having signed with Artist Group International to get the tour underway.

kind of what ryan said earlier - if they had done this with Vinnie I think it would have made a lot more sense as a tribute. you could even have had a slew of guests guitarists on tour to make it interesting.

Pantera ‘Officially’ Recruit Zakk Wylde & Charlie Benante For 2023 North American & European Touring


Per a new report over at Billboard.com, the 2023 reunion of groove metal titans Pantera will extend to both North American and European touring. Citing a source close to the band, Billboard have also reported that Zakk Wylde (Black Label Society, Ozzy Osbourne) and Charlie Benante (Anthrax) have been confirmed to be the live fill-in’s for the band’s late brotherly duo, guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott and drummer Vinnie Paul Abbott.

It was stated in the aforementioned report that the estates of both of the Abbott brothers have signed off on the upcoming reunion tour, which will find vocalist Phil Anselmo and bassist/vocalist Rex Brown back in the fold.

While not founding members of the lineup, both Anselmo and Brown were present throughout what is considered by fans to be the band’s classic era, including their legendary run of albums from 1990’s platium-certified “Cowboys From Hell” through to their final album, 2000’s platinum-selling “Reinventing The Steel“.

Thus far official word from the band’s camp has yet to emerge regarding their plans.

Until I see Zakk Mylde nail some covers I’m pretty “whatever” about this. I swear though if he injects pitch harmonics into every song there’s gonna be trouble.
