at a glance it looks identical to graspop. peace sells encapsulates it all perfectly - the band sounds like shit most of the time, and dave's voice is so cooked he can't even intro the song nevermind sing the chorus (even at a lower register). which isn't all that surprising given dave's age and the fact that he had throat cancer, it's probably lucky he can perform at all. but jeez, this is painful to listen to.

I'll never understand how or why Megadeth has the popularity that they do. they've been a joke for decades and yet here they are still playing the main stage.
like, Metallica is a joke too - but there is a lot more mass appeal with them so I'm not surprised that they are still so big - Megadeth never had that.

They did write some very good songs so there's that, but I think their primary appeal was among guitar nerds just getting started out with metal. They were always a bit more technical and interesting than Metallica (though not as catchy) while also easier to understand in terms of what made Slayer great below the surface; they were aggressive, but not frighteningly so to someone new to metal. At least that's how I see it now as I'm trying to remember my mindset 20+ years ago.

At this point I think they're kind of in the Iron Maiden realm of having been around so long that they're a must see act even though they haven't released a good album in a long time.

absolutely not

absolutely. best since endgame easily. talca wishes they could still write songs like this. There’s a couple tracks with especially ridiculous lyrics (it’s Dave so that’s to be expected). Overall, after the throat cancer, the diddling Dave fiasco, and Covid delays this is definitely the best possible outcome for a new Megadeth album in 2022 anyone could hope for. Much better than I expected honestly. After a couple full listens I’d rank it:

Not a full listen yet, but everything has pretty darn good so far. Yeah probably the best megadeth in recent years. I will soak it in more and report back

I never really cared for Megadeth and I am not planning to now, after hearing this.
