I remember being at Amoeba once and a hard-on bearer there was looking at a copy of The Seer inquisitively. Being in a friendly mood I decided to chime in on his potential purchase. The interaction went something like this:
"That's a solid album, man. I really dig it."
"Oh? I've never heard these guys before."
"Oh well then that's not a bad place to start. It's a pretty long album, so make sure you're in a headspace for it when you listen."
"Ok cool. Hey, have you heard this album? Hang on it's right over here. It's so good. Seriously."
And that's when he presented me with a copy of Lulu. I'm sure he saw the look of disappointment and confusion on my face when I simply said "Oh...no. No I haven't." And slowly started backing away.
After that I learned it's best not to interact with strangers when it comes to music.
As you were slowly backing away you should’ve said you had a table for one waiting

I’ve tried so many times getting into these guys but just can’t do it. Not sure why.

my god the past decade of swans has been absolutely perfect. that span of five albums eats up an entire workday and i'm spending every single one listening to the full run. why doesn't every band spend 10 years recording a series of flawless 2-hour long albums??

How would you rank the last five, stormicus?
the glowing man
the seer
to be kind
leaving meaning
my father

i saw a teenager wearing a morbid angel covenant shirt at the store the other day and i lost my mind. told him that it was awesome and i loved it. he kind of gave me a "thanks old man" look
today is a 'spend my entire workday listening to those five albums again' kinda day

have listened nearly exclusively to swans over the last weekish, jamming a shitload of soundtracks and white light. finally listened to the burning world for the first time which was the last of their proper studio releases i hadn't gotten to on account of it not existing outside of youtube
but now i've finally latched on to SAD and jesus fucking christ if this isn't one of the best live albums ever released
fuuuuuuuck me. the studio version finally and fully clicked last weekend which prompted this whole obsessive dive, but man, this performance. the scream at ~11:00 is one of the most affecting moments i've ever heard in any piece of music. unreal, absolutely unreal

Is rare pressings of swans records going to be your new money pit?

highly doubtful. i'd like to get the 82-96 stuff on vinyl eventually, but i'm not really married to the idea of getting originals. unfortunately even some of the more recent pressings are quite pricey - i don't think white light has been reissued since the 2015 edition and those are like $50+ now.
the reunion stuff i have almost no interest in getting on vinyl, because they had to make concessions around a lot of the long tracks where they either get cut down or split up since they won't fit on a single 33rpm side.
