With no fewer than two gentlemen named Andrew, it seems. If I brought my brother, it would be three. It will be my first death metal show in a very long time.

this doesn't make sense though because one of the openers dropped off (Abigail Williams) right before the tour started.

I got to the show just before doors. Rose Funeral was boring. Dreaming Dead needs a better vocalist, but were otherwise pretty good. Krisiun rocked faces.

Immolation was bitchin'. They played:

Passion Kill

Swarm of Terror

The Purge

Father, You're Not A Father

Burial Ground

World Agony

At some point this douchebag was lifted onto the stage and dropped a fat heel on the front of Steve's drum kit. He looked angry, but Ross and Bob were content to let the hard-on bearer stand up and headbang with them. This was my first time seeing Immolation, and it was great. Robert Vigna is a real showman.

I managed to talk briefly to Dallas, and a little more with Karl. I dig the new CD. They played:

Kefir

Sacrifice Unto Sebek

Hitte Dung Incantation

Serpent Headed Mask

Ithyphallic

Execration Text

Papyrus Containing the Spell to Preserve Its Possessor Against Attacks From He Who Is in the Water

4th Arra of Dagon

Cast Down the Heretic

Black Seeds of Vengeance

It was a good night. I was recognized by some hard-on bearer that was in the second grade with me for all of about two months, before I left town. My brother almost got into a fight with some drunk idiots because they were being drunk idiots, and he was not as social as they would have liked him to be.

man, only 6 songs and the furthest back they reached was CtaWB... i guess it's not that surprising, but holy shit did my enthusiasm for this show just completely die off. would rather wait for the unlikely chance that they'll get a headlining spot again someday :\

I just remembered Ross saying they would tour again very soon. They didn't want to announce specifics until the deal is done. They'll probably headline that one.

I wish they had played Kem Khefa Kheshef, The Eye of Ra and Iskander Dhul Karnon. I think the latest album is an improvement over the previous one. Ithyphallic was a little too chugga chugga boring to me. Papyrus... and The Essential Salts bring the win, though.

Same with TWTGD. Although I've only listened to the latter twice and I think it improves towards the end. But, I don't know, sard. I still dig the sound and feel of Catacombs, but I'm not so much into this new sound.

I much prefer the sound of catacombs, seeds and shrines. At the risk of sounding like a freak, i think that it's georges playing that grates with me the most. It's like his state of rest is 265bpm blasting. Like, Max Kolosne is fast too, but he still locks up the occasional head banging groove. Take the start of Dawn of Flagellation for instance (just an example off the top of my head) George should take a leaf from his book.

Also, Dallas writes some of the most amazing riffs, Karl and he should split the albums 50/50.

I didn't like Ithyphallic, but Those Whom the Gods Detest is their best album since In Their Darkened Shrines.

I wouldn't mind seeing them, but the closest they are coming is 5 hours away and in the middle of the week.
