Immolation vocals

I love Immolation's music, i think they're really interesting. Great harmony ideas, weird timing and riffs and just sound dark & fruital.

But I feel the vocals are weak.

After listening to Deicide's debut then putting on "Dawn of Possession" I found the vocals are just not as, how can I say... strong & maybe 'ballsy'.

When I think about DM bands the vocals are often very powerful like Vincent, Corpsegrinder, Benton, Tardy and so on but Immation's just seem weak and soft growling without any power or emotion behind them.

Anyone agree?

Don't get me wrong, they're a killer band.

i feel quite the contrary. i think Dolan is a great vocalist because he can enunciate quite clearly yet retain that powerful low growl.

(and i think that Benton is one of the most powerless, monotonous, boring, lifeless vocalists around.. especially live :redneck: )

I agree with that, but on their debut and Legion i think he was pretty cool (maybe this was before all his substance abuse?).

Never seem him live, but heard he's rubbish.

yeah, that's maybe it.

I haven't listened to Dawn for ages, maybe that's it - because this comment only came when I listened to Dawn.

I've never noticed it for the other albums, so maybe that's it? Dawn being the first album maybe...?
ive always dug ross' vocals. my only gripe is that he needs to end less of his vocal phrasings with "UUAH!"
It's a great album, but the production is abit weak i think.

I think Ross Dolan's vocals are very good for a Death Metal singer. Very unique, perceptible to listen the lyrics of the song. I think that his vocals are strange because of the Dawn of Possession album, knowing that the production is weak comparing it to the other albums of Immolation.

It's all evolution and progression. The music of Immolation just gets better and better, and the vocals the same way. The thing I found amazing is how Ross can sing just long lyrics.

Hey Fukket have you heard any live Immolation? Oh my fucking gawd... Dolan sounds 100 times more fierce on the live recordings I have heard. It makes me really want to see them play live, in the flesh.

The thing that surprised me most about Immolation is how small they all are. Me and the bassist of my old band towered over all of them, although Ross is a fucking tank.

It would be hard to find cooler guys. My old band played with them twice--each time they were very friendly and down to earth (this was about 10 years ago, so it was a different drummer and second guitarist).

We did a tour with them two years age. as far as i am concerned friends for life. Amazingly cool dudes. Ross vocal get better every Album.

One of the best vocalist out there. And one with a truly unique sound. Way better than all the interchangable cookie monsters you hear a lot.

I always liked Ross' vocals, especially on DoP. Indeed he overdoes the "UAAH" sentence termination a little too often.

It's been a while since I've listened to Immo, this thread makes me want to spin catwb and unholy cult. :xx:
