The singing towards the end?

The riff under that is class.

I'm as far as "Permitting The Noble Dead To Descend To The Underworld". I haven't really been awestruck by the album thus far. Although although I have headphones on, and it's playing, I'm not really "listening" to it. I haven't been paying attention to it. This song actually seems ok. I think I need to listen to this again when I'm less tired.

The album steps up a gear after permitting.

Permitting is probably my favourite track, the last riff is ridiculously epic.

BSoD was no question the peak for them, but they've had plenty of good material since. just nothing as consistent, or without some really boring stretches.

There's at least 4 tracks on Annihilation that I can't even sit through. It's easily their worst album.

Ithyphallic, to me, is by Far their weakest album. I can say with hand on heart that i've listened to The Unspoken King by Cryptopsy more times than Ithyphallic. It's not that it's a terrible album, it's just so mediocre and nile-by-numbers that i can't really justify listening to it from start to finish.
The Unspoken King by Cryptopsy more times than Ithyphallic
daaaaaang, that's harsh.

still, i agree with your assessment. the only difference is i listened to both of them about once the whole way through. cryptopsy was mostly for laughs though, i wasn't actually expecting to be so let down by ithyphallic.

More parts by itself shouldn't necessarily make it better.

You really need to plot a function of "amount enjoyed" versus "time", and find the area.

TWtGD is a good album, a hell a lot better than AotW and Ithylphalic, but it's nowhere near enjoyable as their earlier stuff prior to these albums. To my ears, Black Seeds and Shrines are my favourites hands down.

I think Kollias added a lot of monotony to Nile. My theory is that Karl felt upstaged by Laureano so he ordered Kollias as a 'metronome.'

His drumming is far more creative this time round though.

There's a recent thread on the NIle board where Karl takes credit for Laureanos drumming. :frown: :frown: :frown:

tony is just a pretty standard death metal drummer imo. i mean on itds it was pretty much just blasting punctuated with crazy tom fills. Kollias drumming on twtgd on the other hand just takes the band to a whole new level of awesome. :xx:

Didn't Tony basically play drums parts that Karl or Dallas had already written?

Well yeah , but out of courtesy to Tony , we try not to mention that .

Tony still manged to work in "Tony-isms" here and there ,

so it was OK with us .

they were talking about "Winds of Horus" being played live - someone said they though nobody could play it like Laureano did on the record, then others (as well as Karl) chimed in and said that George plays it far better than Tony ever did live.

It was me who said that George's live drumming > Laureanos.

Laureano is far from standard. If anything Kollias has been guilty of this. Tony utilises far more types of blast than Kollias. He's heavily influenced by Gene Hoglans blasting and drumroll style and his drumming is more diverse than Kollias'. That said, TWTGD is a vast improvement, drumwise and otherwise on the other 'kollias' albums.

There's no doubt that Kollias's live abilty is superior. I believe that Sanders has held him back creatively in the past (Kollias's other projects feature some very creative drumming\), but theres greater diversification of style on the new one.

I think that Sanders has had a wake up call of sorts, Ithy got some bad (by nile standards that is) reviews and naming you album after mythically proportion penises is just a major indicator of the macho ego trip youre on if you ask me.
