phenomenal vocal takes. even phil couldn't pull those high notes off after the studio version was recorded.

Yeah, I'm not sure how he even did them that once. Still, during that one recording, his falsetto was second to none, ever, imho.

he probably wasnt hooked on heroin and booze and cigarettes at the time.
look at geoff tate. the man could hit incredible notes as late as the rage for order tour in 86-87, and once the mindcrime tour hit in 88-89 he was having problems. by 90 (4 years) his range had diminished so much that he stopped trying to show it off and they took those higher songs out of the sets. all from smoking.
