x-japan have a few decent tracks, on the whole i have a tough time getting into 'em though. and yeah, their live show is pretty ridiculous, haha. never really got that whole visual-kei thing, i guess it's more or less the japanese equivalent of glam, but i get the feeling the visual component was a lot more important to them, or somehting.
daisuke ishiwatari is apparently quite the fan of x-j though, he used a riff straight out of kurenai in the ggxx soundtrack:

I read that when HIDE , X Japan guitarist, died, a lot of fans commited suicide. There is also a museum dedicated to him
