so often we post threads where we try to share our often obscure favorite music with each other, but maybe we don't actually pay attention to eachother. well, i'd like to bring some order to the notion with this thread. hopefully you guys are mature enough to participate. it will be an organized listening and critique party. here's how it goes i guess. i'll start. i'll share a cool youtube video and we can all comment on it. then, roughly but exactly in the next 24 hours after the time i poste mine, and its comments and critique, its time will be done. and the next poster, whom the previous poster nominates, will be responsible for the next video. then, after roughly 24 hours (one earth day), he/she will be responsible for nominating the next poster. so, here is my first video.

its a jazz tune from thelonious monk, aka (dubbed by his wife, and inspired by his style, "melodious funk") the tune is "epistrophy." its cooky and brilliant imo. monk had some "mental problems" but his music is brilliant. in this tune is a sample of his simple and subtle, yet ordered and melodic and wacky style. his background lead from :32 to :36 is a great example of his quirkiness and ingenuity.

i actually think this is a pretty cool idea for a thread, its just not taking off.

I think that the song is a brilliant example of what jazz players were capable of doing. The dissonance at the end is astounding, especially the part with the rhythmic whatever, and I'm totally making this shit up. Not bad song though. I just don't listen to jazz all that much.

Well, we'll see, I paused Lykathea Aflame for this, which may not be the best time to listen to something new.



Anyway, I'm writing this as I listen. I like the intro so far, kinda middle eastern sounding. The vocals are pretty cool, I like it. Very brief and yes, I see why you like it. The screaming vocals in the background are interesting, I'm not sure what I think of them. But yes, it does have a kind of atmosphere to it that is very cool.
