How do you all feel about people who do this? To me cupping the microphone in death metal is an insult to the genre.

this is just pathetic.. 0:36 - 0:56

i did not watch, but i'm not a fan of inhale growls in general, tend to be so low in volume that cupping is needed

In general, I don't like this type of bands, but if you are getting at how "they cheat", then think again. Are you using a distortion on your guitar? You are cheater.

probably the worst band I ever had the displeasure (they opened for Nile) of watching after Otep.

basically they are one of the most generic sounding deathcore bands ever...and yet they are one of the more popular.

boring guitars, boring drums, boring vocals. what's to like?

Cupping the mic is for pussy bitches. Vocalists who cup the fucking mic do so because they're imagining it is a cock and they want to cup the balls.

Guitar distortion can be compared to vocal effects pedals/filters, not mic cupping.

...and cupping the mic is not similar to raising the gain on a guitar amp? It's not a way of forcing more air to mic membrane in order to make the mic to distort?

Think again. If it's good, it's good, it's just a way of getting the sound ;)

I honestly don't care. It's better to not do it, but hey, if they want to do it then they want to do it.

Cupping the mic provides a deeper, and in the genre sometimes considered "better" vocal performance. This is where the 'better' is derived from.

i cup the mic during practice and live just becuase its more comfortable for me.

when we record though i dont cup my mouth or anything, the way my vocals sound on the cd is the way they actually sound.

ive met some people that cant actually growl or do lows without cupping.
