I plan on building a guitar in tribute to Trey Azagthoth and Morbid Angel! I cant make my mind up though wether I should buy the Jackson warrior body and neck and such or the bc rich ironbird stuff. jackson has alot more necks availible on ebay and stuff and obviously the body. bc rich would be a little harder to find since the Ironbird is a rather uncommon guitar so it would be harder to find the necks bodies ect. however they sell the bc rich ironbird neckthrough with a single humbucker its black with grey bevels (gay looking) but i figure i could possibly route a single coil w/coil tap and buy schaller lo-pro and paint it blood red and leave the neck black? but that would be alot of $$$! the jackson would be easier and cheaper and maybe a litle more fun since its a bolt on (like it should be) but I would love the ironbird as well!

what are some of the switches he has? I know theres a coil tap but ive heard him say phase switch, wtf? thanks guys let me know what you think and share info on his guitars!

I'd say the ironbird but.... Trey played the older style red ironbird for almost all of his career. (BC Rich collectors speak of the mark-I shape) His new one is different on all angles and not as iconic IMO.

It is gonna be hard to find one. His is a International series, a cheap import. Which has seen many different trems, pups and whatever. He has had a Ibby edge trem to the Schaller on it. And many different necks. Indeed a paf-pro combined with a fasttrack.

A phase switch puts the coils out of phase creating a vewry thin and trebly sound. He uses that in combination with his spacy effects. Single coil splits the bucker to one coil for strat-like sounds.

The bevels on the International body are also different than all the older NJ, Rave and Platinum series, as well as on the never Class-axe mark-II shaped Riches and newer (around 2002) import mark-II shaped NJ and Platinum-pro series and the recent Ironbird-pro.



Among the older mark-I shapes of which you will mostly find imports (if you are lucky finding any at all) a lot of them are utter crap, the older Platinum (not to be mistaken with the newer Platinum-pro, totally different guitars), Rave and a lot of the older NJ were plywood. It is hard to know which to buy as the BC rich data on older series is almost non exsistent. I have a shitload of older catalogues but the plywood ones are never really specified. Although there are some good solid wood guitars in those series.



My first guitar was a red ironbird. It left me in a bad manner and since then i've been on a bird quest. I own five of them varing in quality. Two late eighties plywood ones, of which one sounds pretty good actually. Two mid era of the gloryhole japanese made IG-400 which are very nice and comparable to high-end ibbys. And one neck-thru US series which were made in Japan and assembled in the US with the same components as the US-made models. Next to that i have a 7string one which a fellating lover of mine made for me and i have a red sevenstring on order from the hard-on bearer who build my 7string explorer. (I hope that will cure my Ironbird trauma )

I've been doing reasearch on ironbirds for the last 20 or more years, if you wanna know more let me know.

I guess Treys Ironbird is like Van Halens Frankenstrat. It's a diffrent guitar from each record!

Hey, you can also build the body by yourself

I´m just building "Trey style" ironbird body. It´s almost ready and I'm starting to paint it in near future.

When I started that project I bought used Bc Rich Warlock Dark Art Onyx where I got the necessary parts like, neck, floyd rose and some electronics etc. I think that was good choise.

Yeah man that would be killer just to get some ideas! Anyone know what tremolo he currently has in his red ironbird and which one inshould look for? Maybe I'll just make both! Hehehe... ahh guitars are like drugs man seriously!

Why did you choose the mark II shape? Do you like that one better than the original shape?

Actually it´s a mix of those two models. For example, upper left corner is from mark II and bottom corner is from original and there isn´t those edge bevels like reissue.

If you mean about upper corner, I like both models and can´t say which one is better.

Motherfuck, I've always wanted to build my own guitar. Why the fuck am I not doing this right fucking now? I should make a summer project of it.

I've found many BC rich ironbirds on eBay and there's a couple older ones with the Mark-I shape that I figured I could check out. I've decided to make this a big project hopefully done sometime In the summer. But I need ideas on necks! I plan on using a ibby edge lo pro. Shit I'm gonna use;

Mahogany BC Rich IronBird body ( should I use a different wood?)

Dimarzio PAF Pro

Dimarzio FastTrack

Edge Lo-Pro tremelo w/locking nut

Neck?!?!(probably24fret maple&rosewood FB w/classic dot markers & Grover rotamatics to be precise)

Can anyone specify or recommend nice pots and what he exacty has (vol. Tone.)

And also what switchs he has I know uni777 already said info about the phase but where could I get one

not that my opinion matters, but there is something more satisfying about the ironbird to me. i've had slews of pointy, kind of impractical guitars over the years, and the ironbird pro i have now is my fave. it comes down to the body lines for me, although it seems that the warrior is more balanced as far as playability is concerned. i wish i could find a mark I ironbird that was in good shape, but i haven't been so lucky as of yet.

and i agree about the silver bevels. that's why i got the spalted maple one.
