The new album will either be the best thing of the year or a colossal disappointment. After so many years, can there be a middle ground?

Re: I

it might be just good/decent, which is not good enough for me

Re: I

That's my point. If they wait this long to release another Gateways or Heretic, can people be blamed for feeling huge disappointment?

Re: I

can people reasonably expect something as good as the classics?

i think not

and i think you all ducking know it

I am actually hoping for something new. I am eager to hear how Trey incorporates the influences of electronic music into this new album.

I have high hopes for this album. You know why? Because Nevermore is a fucking great song. The studio version of that song will be even better. Since Dave has been in the band for many years now, he will undoubtedly give his creative input. Sure his voice isn't as good as it used to be, Trey must have consulted Dave on many things. Also, Trey's new electronic influences will create a surprise.

I wouldn't go that far.

i thought it was a really cool song, it had a big heretic vibe and i'm a big fan of that album

i just really hope he doesn't do those "whoa-o-o-o-oh's" on the studio version.

If you really compare it to the rest of their catalogue it's pretty average.

I gave Nevermore a good listen and here are my thoughts:

1. It's a very solid track. It may be a bit long to be a death metal "single", but it's definitely the kind of song that could follow some sort of intro.

2. Dave being his own echo effect is just awesome. :brushteeth:

i like Nevermore until they finish the break/bridge (which I think is very cool!)... when they go back to the main riff / verse / chorus it just gets boring to me... there's nothing new there, only the same parts as in the beginning. Some cool harmonies in the guitar riffs would make it more interesting maybe... but overall I like it, even David's clean parts.

You beat me to it.. Somehow it seems as if the inspiration stopped at that point. I always had the hope the song would be rearranged for I but i doubt it.

Even if they write the best album they possibly can many will think it is not up to par with the classics.

I hope David has some input arrangement wise. IMO H had a lot of cool things going on in the songs but some of them could have used a more clear focus as where they were going instead of just bubbeling along.. Just my opinion feel free to disagree.

What i like to hear on I in a nutshell: A killer wall of guitars that sound articulate, not like a can of bees. A awesome vocal production; David has a great and unique voice... take time to make it shine. A drumkit which sounds like a drumkit, don't care if it sounds snappy or not but make it sound natural. And last some good old lyrics that inspire in good old MA fashion.

And please, please, please, decent cover art.

it's like the camera/editor thought the solo was done by Thor as they didn't even cut to Trey at all during the solo.... :frown:

they didn't really film Trey at all during the entire show... :homework:

that seems to happen a lot when bands are filmed and it's not directed by them.

i've noticed with other bands too where the guitarist will burst into a solo and they'll cut to the...drummer.

I prefer this version. The sound is just...better somehow. Not more hi-fi, but...I can't really explain it. The vocals are better, and the dude with the camcorder knows who to point it at.

Also, deep voice is deep.

Holy shit!!! Gargulec that was an awesome recording of Nevermore! Why did you take off the link?!

Too late though, buddy. I downloaded it. This is so awesome, you can hear the song so clearly and really appreciate the intensity and complexity of this song. It's so crushing, after hearing this, I'm convinced this album is going to be the next Formulas!

Bullshit! There's no one like that here. Put it up immediately!

If you don't, I'll distribute this anyway! It's a crime to keep this monster all to yourself.

is it even certain he's part of the songwriting process/album recordings now?

I could think that he will play few solos as a special guest but that's it.

Maybe Erik would do something too? Like he did a lead on CC's latest and I think it was Annotation of an autopsy he did some guest vocals on too.

Nothing against Thor but I hope he has nothing to do with the song writing at all.His solos just don't fit like Richard's or Erik's did in the passed.

Me too !!

I really like what Erik did, he's a great musician, but in my opinion Richard's solos were even better ! They are more chaotic and fit Trey's style.

Yeah, and some of Richard´s solos is better than Trey´s. I agree that Thor´s solos don´t fit to MA very well but I believe he will surprise us all on the new album.

Re: I

I think that Erik's solos kicked ass on every MA album recording he preformed on, but sometimes live it wasn't as great.

Actually I guess not, since the drumparts are pre-recorded and Trey and David are now together in the studio.

MA recordings have always been a group effort.

My impression is that Thor is only the live guitarist since they couldn't get that other hard-on bearer who's name I forgot.

I remembere after Altars came out the whole DM press and fans where wondering what they would come up with after a milstone like that. Well, I guess they blew everyone away with Blessed.

I am very confident that it will crush

Well I remember differently. A lot of people did not get it. And a lot of reviews were negative.

A lot of folks found it to slow.

It was definately not an instand classic. Read the liner notes in the reissue. Trey elaborates on it.

Re: I

At that time I only read Aardschok magazine.

Robert Heeg gave Blessed are the sick a 10/10 just like Wim Baelus did for Altars.

He praised them for not copiing themselves and said something like this: "It's not the full frontal attack like Altars, it's like creeping up with a knifestab in the back: equally deadly".

I still think it was the correct observation. :grimsanta:
