I've read here that he might be a T supporter. He is in Florida which is T's stronghold, and he's made some posts against "the Left".

Is it really true that he is a confirmed T supporter? If he is, then it would be a pretty big betrayal of his known beliefs on society and religion.

i don't give it much thought, he's an an old burn out now, doesn't really even feel worth discussing. i'm more than certain he's a right wing (probably maga) person now.

Trey has always been a republican, pro-guns, etc. Which is all fine IMO. He can believe and support anything he wants.

You don't think there's a massive contradiction between his railing against religious dogma all his life, and then going on to make common cause with Christian evangelicals that are the MAGA?

David seems to have mellowed out. Almost strikes me like he's abandoned his past views, but I could be wrong.

i could be misremembering but i always had him in the more apathetic camp rather than partisan republican, especially given its very close association with religious dogmatism and its censorious impulse, which was a much more formidable force during MA's peak years. just from a purely self-interested angle, it doesn't track for me. i wish i could recall if we'd had any discussions on politics specifically, but nothing comes to mind

so following from that my view of contemporary trey's politics is along the lines of 'just another burnt out miserable gen xer with no political analysis who fell for it'

Judging by his erratic now-deleted youtube rants after the first T ass-assination attempt and his behaviour on the last tour, he's definitely what you expect from any southern alcoholic boomer consuming fox news 24/7.

It is certainly contradictory even at the most basic level of being anti-commercial/anti-mainstream, as this is pretty much all garden-variety pre-packaged MAGA stuff. A far cry from the introspective and eccentric takes he displayed back when he was doing interviews 20 years ago or so that didn't fit neatly into any mainstream politics, or his total hostility to politics in MA that he claimed was the reason for kicking Dave out of the band after Domination. I'm going with stormy's analysis.
