It amazes me how passionate Trey is performing here, I mean it's "just" a soundcheck / warm up kind of thing. And he still puts 100% feeling to it.

Bring Steve and Pete back, drop David and Tim, and add either Erik Rutan or Gene Palubicki on guitar, and you've got a band worthy of continuing the Morbid Angel legacy!

As much as it's nice to dream, I can't see Steve ever returning to MA.

The other thing to consider is: Could they ever have another vocalist ?. This far in their career, I doubt they'd believe they could be better off with somebody other than David Vincent. That's the impression I get anyway...

Yup, after 3.5 years downunder we're back up here

I am at a loss for a name at the moment, but I think they could find a vocalist no problem. May get tough with another vocalist/bassist combo, and I can't imagine them having just a front man, but hell, stranger things could happen. Whouldathunk there'd be an album without Pete at the helm of the stix, or there would have been such a extreme radikult release such as IDI. Yes, stranger things have indeed happened before.

I don't think MA will be around for much longer, so I don't think Trey will bother looking for a new frontman

The thing is "sub-par" doesn't begin to describe it. If they made a death metal record and it just wasn't that great, that would be "sub-par." To me, the death metal songs on the latest album are sub-par. The album as a whole is more like a huge wtf misfire.

This is correct. There's no fire, no spirit, no LAVA in the latest record. It's obvious that Trey isn't really into death metal anymore, and that's totally fine by the way - just don't keep pumping uninspired stuff out in order to pay the bills. It's tough for me to say this, because they're one of my all time favorite bands (not just DM bands, I do enjoy other stuff). I still vividly remember the first time hearing "Chapel of Ghouls" and almost shitting my pants because it sounded so evil and otherworldly.



Let's face it - at the current moment, MA is nothing but a nostagia act. Just look at their recent setlists; if they had any real confidence or artistic investment in the new material, they'd play it. Instead, what we get are mostly the same songs they did back on the "Domination" tour (the last time I saw them live, coincidentally). Great show, but there's no reason to still be playing the same songs again and again, especially if you're REALLY into your new direction and think it's just as valid as the previous albums. I've seen people comment things along the lines of "who cares, at least they play the old stuff well live!" Uh... yeah... they've been doing that for 15 years or more now! A comparable band is Manowar, who occasionally makes new (and really fucking weak compared to the early stuff) albums, but puts on a damn great live show and plays most of the classics, so most people are pacified by that and will pay to see it regardless, even though the band stopped giving a fuck long ago.



I don't like talking shit, so I hope this rant doesn't come across like that. MA is one of my all time faves, but it's just painful to see an eight-year wait go down the drain like this. And the experimentation isn't even a problem - I was hoping Trey could do something interesting and weird with the electronic influences, but it failed miserably. Add that to abortions like "Radikult" and "I Am Morbid," and it's just all too surreal.

I must agree with the above. Even the expressions from recent pictures that have been taken of Trey, that smile is not there and he just does not look happy at all.

I read somewhere that Steve left Morbid Angel twice due to a lack of commitment of a certain member involved, but he hailz Pete's dedication for drumming, so that leaves Trey..
