It's very hard to keep from listening to this.

I miss the excitement of buying a cd on release day, and putting the cd in and readin the booklet while hearing the material for the first time :eyes:

all the samples I have heard sound really cool, except for radikult, so I'm one of the few that's really excited for this. :santa:

Beauty Meets Beast is the best song on the record, and the worst song I've heard in a long time by any band is right after it.

No, Radikult :homework:

I'm not particularly fond of Existo either, but it's definitely better than Radikult.

eh, whatever creams your twinkie...What I've heard sounds awesome to these ears.

I will share the sentiment that I do not hold much hope for Radikult though.

Not having listened to the samples, I gave *Too Extreme* a spin.

Love the riffs. Treyish all the way.

I can see how those with a familiarity of the catalog might be put-off by this album, as it IS a change.

But I enjoyed the song!! YES NEW MA

-

added - The intro riff on Too Extreme is killer

The guitars ARE too low. Mixing deficiency or conscious change in focus?

I'm on 10 More Dead by now (BTW, thanks for posting). So far the only tune I totally hate is I Was Morbid. It's just dumb. And the intro is GOOFY.

I actually didn't hate Too Extreme...it's kind of intense in its own way. But it for sure doesn't have that Morbid Angel vibe that I'm used to, the essence is absent (or replaced, like pod people). Actually so far it's missing from everything I've heard. Not really loving the vocal patterns in general. Existo is still pretty cool, I guess. Probably my favorite. And so far...no really amazing Trey solos, and I'm not big into Thor's leads, although he is certainly competent.

Blades is a cool song, but doesn't sound like Morbid Angel to me. Parts of it make me think of The Crown. In a good way.

Is it me, or is the guitar production on Blades and 10 More Dead really different from the others?

Oh boy, Destructos just started marching on...I hate the monotonous rhythm, but I like some of the dissonant chords Trey is playing in the first half, creates a cool effect. But this is not Morbid Angel. I know that that's arrogant of me...I guess if Trey says it is, then it is, bottom line. But again, in the same way that I wouldn't put on Hate Eternal when my brain craves the vibe that MA creates, there is now a Morbid Angel album that I won't put on when my brain craves the vibe that MA creates. Paradoxical and stupid, I guess, but there you go. It's not Morbid Angel, but I hear Morbid Angel in it. Oh jesus, ATTACK just came on. Fucking silly.

Interesting in the Decibel interview to confirm that Radikult was a Dave song. I guess I Was Morbid, as well? Also interesting that Rutan talked about Morbid Angel as a band, as individuals and as originators...but no comment on the current material.

The day started out well, MA-wise...scored a signed Laibach Remixes LP.

So far this is overall as disappointing as I expected, and I haven't even gotten to Radikult yet. Fuck. FUCK.

I'm still on Too Extreme and enjoying it. I do find some of the shouts grating and somewhat hollow. The music is catchy. I'm always a fan of Trey's guitar style.

People around me will be inundated with these sounds soon. I think my niece would dig this, as she honestly enjoyed the Destructos remix.

On to Blades.

The beginning of Profundis - Mea Culpa really reminded me of (The Berzerker - Massacre) as does quite a bit of this album remind me of The Berzerker

Blades of Baal is fucking killer

added - The arpeggiated section of the solo (3:33) is beautiful. In fact, the solo in it's entirety is well done.

Ironically so far the first memorable Trey solo was in stupid-ass Radikult.

So Radikult...still stupid, but the sample was definitely the lamest part of the song. It gets better, but never good. I kind of like the vibe at the very end of it, but Evil D.'s moans of genitorture make it dumb.

Zim--totally agree on the Berzerker comment.

BTW, the dB interview mentioned some Blessed remixes. I hadn't heard of them...you guys? I'm morbidly curious.

So far Mea Culpa is pretty annoying. I am marginally impressed that those are guitars making those weird synthy/record scratchy sounds. On the other hand WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU DO THAT?!

I ordered the fucking BOX. Mea culpa, indeed.

OK, it's over. Time to move on.

I always said MA could put out the worst piece of shit album ever and I'd still think they rule, just based on the brilliance of the early stuff. Never thought they'd test me this way, though.

More power to them. I hope they get famous and rich. They deserve it. They more than earned my $200; ordering that before I knew shit about the album other than rumors is my "thank you" for A-G, and even H, I guess (man, Nevermore makes me wish I could hear Heretic with a real mix).

But unless it's the awesomest packaging I've ever beheld, it's still going on eBay at some point.

I'm with slimegod. This just isn't a MA album. It doesn't even occupy the same universe as the others (where's my Ancient Ones/Lovecraft vibes?

Trey does have some really interesting stuff on the album and I don't think it's a complete failure. Just not an MA album.

this really is an amazingly ridiculous album. personally I enjoy it but make no mistake - this should not have been a morbid angel album. it's got trey's fingerprints all over it, but it's not morbid angel - if that makes sense.

So far, Blades for Baal is a pretty cool song. The riffs are great and what I first thought was good to hear (David's vocals in it), are getting a bit annoying after a while. You can just hear he's faking it. I don't like the chorus in 10 more dead, but the song itself is cool! I don't think it's Nu metal at all. Great soloing too.

I'm not even going to talk about Too Extreme, I Am Morbid, Destructos, Radikult and Mea Culpa... they're a fucking joke. The "Attack" bit in Destructos.... OMFG... the worst grindcore bands do a better job than that.

didn't like beauty meets beast either :homework: the riffs are alright but it just bores me.

the only thing about that's awesome is the last solo by Trey, it REALLY has that Formulas sound :xx:

The 2 best songs on this album are Thor's songs... They're pretty fucking sweet, though (except that fucking 10! MORE! DEAD! chorus bullshit :waa: ) :santa: But the rest... I never thought I'd listen to an MA album where I can honestly say at least half the album is forgettable :tear:

Probably the wrong word for it. He's not faking anything but I just feel he's forcing himself (too hard) to sing differently.... that's just the impression that I get.

Holy shit. I just listened to I Am Morbid in it's entirety. Since when did Morbid Angel decide they want to appeal to 1980's sleazy pub goers? :oldryan: This is song is just as controversial as Radikult (although that really takes the crown for shittest song MA have made). I've listened to most (not even all) the album just once, and I'm already back listening to Dissection. :homework: It's funny, because this album could be kind of enjoyable, I mean I'd probably give it a 5/10 if only it wasn't Morbid Angel. The fact that Trey + David basically made this album (Thor's 2 songs are pretty awesome so spare him) just makes the album that much worse.

I'll try not to listen to all of these songs before I recieve the album in the mail !! I've just listened to radikult and mea culpa because these songs are not in the typical MA style ! And I prefer radikult than mea culpa...this song is not bad at all, but it's not Morbid Angel, it's not dark at all, it sounds like Marilyn Manson :oldryan: So why inculde such a song to a MA album ? Why not doing a side-project with it ? By the way, someone knows who has composed radikult ? WhereTheSlimeLives ?

No seriously, I didn't even listen past the 2 minute mark of Radikult. Like I said earlier, the only 2 songs that really stood out and impressed me are Thor's tracks.

So far I don't like any of it, just some riffs and solos here and there, maybe it will grow on me but it's hard to listen to it.

It's not just Too extreme!, Destructos vs the Earth or Radikult(even though it has a good solo) that I feel like skipping, It's even Existo and Nevermore, I'm allready bored with those two.

Hahahahaa, nice. Yeah, I was saying "time to move on" to myself. Waiting to hear htis album, it was gonna be like a big event because of the anticipation. Literally when Mea Culpa ended it was like "ok, that's that" and I made that post, went to bed. Like a non-event, in the end.
