Difference of Blasphegrams

I noticed this weekend that there is a difference between Blasphegrams on Covenant and Domination. I then noticed it is squirrelly looking on my other CD's. Then I began to notice that it is off-center on practically every piece of Morbid Angel paraphernalia I have except for Covenant-era.

Was this intentional? Am I just being paranoid? Has anyone else noticed this?

But i am not able to understand the difference yet, explain more.

I will get some examples scanned and posted this evening, I should have done that prior to posting.

Basically if you look at the Blasphegram on the CD for Covenant it is perfectly symmetrical. But I notice on Domination it was very much off center (look at the cross-arms, the intersection of the pentagram as well). Even if you look at logo on the MABB home page you will notice it is off. Also the curvature of the symbol arms (I know that is not a the correct way to phrase if someone can skool me please) is very different. Then when I looked at my posters, older t-shirts, etc notice there were slight variations as well. Further then I checked pictures of the Blasphegram tat I have, it is symmetrical, but it was taken from Covenant CD, {that is a dumb reference but I leave it in :grin: }

This then had me recall a while back when Uni posted an excellent large size Blasphegram and there was some talk of which album it may have come from.

I just had not noticed these before but I will work tonight on getting some examples scanned and pointers made. It may be nothing, but I just find it interesting.

I am not referring to the symbols located on the open book of the actual Covenant album cover.

Mmm the logo's vary also.

I think the original logo was originally photographed and used on the first Three albums.

The prosses of creating print ready material differt back then from the way we do stuff now. Now we have scanners. We used to do that with cameras and stuff.

The modern logo has been converted into line work which can be done in different ways. Just let the computer do it, (in freehand, illustrator or Corel) with a lot of not so perfect points or do it by hand which takes (too) much time.

With the blasphegram of domination are so many things not right. The perfect Blasphegram is on the Blessed artwork.

The logo on t-shirts from way back looks different also.

Indeed..would there be shirts from this era with this logo?

Mutilator - a few days agoI have seen a new shirt (not official) with this early Morbid Angel logo somwhere on the global ebay.

I understand there are new prints, but they are not from the band, just bootlegs. Would be interesting if they had shirts from the really old days :thingy:

That's not the logo i mean. The Shirt which were sols prior to the altars release and up until around D. Looked better. The line worl was better and the outlines were tighter.

The logo on my European madness shirts looks ay better than the logo on the Extreme music for extreme people T''s.

I will post one of my older t-shirts tonight. It has that demon on the front, with Morbid Angel written in an odd type face above it.

The overall logo on back is different. More rough then what you see by the time Altars came out.

** It was made before the album came along. Back when Mike was still in band.

I understood, but I wanted to take it further :redneck:

The older logo's were more drawny and the later were more tightly outlined.

Can you post comparison pics please?

I collect MA shirts, but I always avoided the 10 years of madness and Extreme music for extreme people shirts :vomit:

i have (or had, no idea what happened to most of my old metal attire) the 10 years of madness shirt, i think that's the one trey gave to me on the extreme steel tour. which is especially puzzling because that was at least a year or two after altars turned 10. i guess they had a bunch of leftovers? :redneck:

yeah, i have a longsleeve from the european sickness tour, i definitely prefer the logo on that one to the later shirts.

I'm pretty sure you can still get those "10 Years..." shirts fairly easily now brand new. Unless I'm mistaken I'm pretty sure I saw one in a merch shop when I was down in London. Does that mean they're still in print, or are these bootlegs?

After looking at them and in light of Uni's post above I am now thinking that it was merely a difference in that one year, but I will say, I think the Covenant era the best looking one :xx:  :xx:

What do you think?

Indeed, in my opinion Domination has the worst album artwork out of any MA release.

I think it is not intentional. The people that worked on the artwork probably hadn't a clue it needed to be symetrical.

I really doubt the angles of the star were perfectly calculated in the original handdrawn logo. As they did with the separate one.

When the logo was needed for different types of merch, different studios worked on packagings and stuff. Each needing different file formats of the thing and thus the image distorted over time.

The Blasphegram on the back of the blessed booklet and the one on the back of the tray are perfect.

It is often very simple: Oh we need a logo for a shirt.. well we have this lo res scan. Then we'll trace it and blow it up.

Been there, done that, in line of work.

Thats why i always create vector files of all the logo design i do. That way you can scale what you want but the quality remains perfect.

That makes a lot of sense and then over time it just kinda gets lost in the shuffle so to speak.

I wanted to put up the BATS logo too as I recall it being symmetrical, like the one I scanned of my poster but unfortunately I no longer have backcase of that album :tear:

Can someone else post a scan of the BATS CD backcover?

You know, I should have just pulled out the cover :shakefist:

i'd imagine they're still in print or there's just a massive stockpile of them leftover from years ago. i'm not really informed about the bootleg market when it comes to that kinda merch, but the stuff i've seen on ebay that stands out as obviously bootleg is usually really simple one/two-color prints. i get the impression that replicating the altars artwork print on the front is probably out of reach for your average bootleg operation, but as i said i'm kinda clueless on that front, so i really have no idea.

if they are the real deal though, it's pretty hilarious they're still selling the 10th anniversary shirts now that we've passed the 20th by quite a ways now

I actually carved it into a pumpkin a few years back and got it almost perfect. I remember using a piece of string and a calculator, but I don't remember why that was

Anyway, I was thinking of buying another pumpkin so I can do it again, because the end result was undeniably awesome. I'll post a picture when if I do.

Totally off topic but have you ever pondered the resemblance of this with the xtian trinitarian symbols?

I have indeed, there are multiple ways to interpret the symbolism of the Valknut. You can interpret it as the nine worlds with the nine points of the triangles, you can also interpret it as the three triangles each representing life, death, and rebirth. While denying the possibility of Christian influence on the religious culture of the Vikings seems unreasonable, it's also important to remember that the concept of dying and rising gods is not a Christian concept; it's a Pagan concept with its roots in the agricultural cycles of the earth. The number 9 is a very significant number in Norse mythology, the nine worlds, Odin hanging from Yggdrasil for nine days to obtain the runes, et cetera. The Valknut was associated with funeral rites and the cults of Odin and can be found on several surviving inscriptions on rocks found in the Scandinavian countries.

Much of what is known about the religious activities of the Nordic Pagans is based on speculation and guesswork, but the few sources we have do tell us they had distinct rituals that took place with the cycles of the year, and that they recognized the seasons. You can find these both in the writings of Tacitus [1st century CE] and Snorri Sturluson [13th century CE], and it really all depends on how you want to look at it.

The beauty of this articulate reply fills me with joy and true hope for my fellow man

This gentleman, is a concise breakdown of the intercorillaries of that which is conceived as old and that which is thought of as new.

Nothing new under the sign as the expression of the symbol finds itself interpreted in the mind of the observer.

Nothing is not and yet all remains is that simplistic human expression of meaning within symbols.

Form as if function of that which provides - a meaning to every process of that which is innate in us all if only we but we had eyes to see and ears to hear
