Favorite Morbid Angel sound-alikes?

This might belong in the "Music" section. So feel free to move it if that's the case.
What are you favorite Morbid Angel clones/influenced Death Metal bands/albums?
Mine are:
Angelcorpse - Exterminate/The Inexorable
Centurian - Liber Zar Zax
Diabolic - Supreme Evil
Hate Eternal - Promo/Conquering The Throne
Krisiun - Black Force Domain/Conquerors of Armageddon/Ageless Venomous
Nox - Ixaxaar
Vader - Sothis/De Profundis
I have only listened to Behind The Shadows Lie Madness by Mithras once. But it had some interesting things going for it. Might make it to my list.

I don't think Conquering the Throne has anything to do with MA. It's so much more fruital, raw and aggressive. Plus the songwriting is completely different.
The rest of that list I could agree with.

I always thought of early Hate Eternal as a speedy version of Morbid Angel. Rutan's songwriting is of course not EXACTLY the same. But don't you think there's a grain of truth in this assumption? Morbid Angel is Rutan's favorite band after all.

I used to love that album. But wasn't it more Deicide influenced? I might be remembering it wrong.

It's a mixture of both, but they cite Blessed are the sick as the death metal bible, which I agree on

'clones' is such a nice and respectable word to use, isn't it?

I wouldn't call any of the bands mentioned above as 'clones'. At least not in the way that Anatomia is an Autopsy clone/tribute band. But I would like to hear a Morbid Angel clone band if there is any.

This reminds me of the bully in the yard who hits the other kids with his plastic shovel. In reality he just wants to be part of the games being played. But he doesn't have the social skills to express himself.
No reason to start a war. Let's talk music instead.

Yes I've heard it and that's also a pretty good album imo, but half of it is demo material. The re-release with all their great covers sadly never came to be
I'm a fan of Wojtek Lisiki's compositions. I'm curious what he will do next now he has left Against the plagues.

I need to get my hands on The Apostate then.
Maybe only related by theme and location, but have you heard Liers In Wait (ex-Grotesque) also from Gothenburg? They remind me of a more chaotic old school version of Nephren-Ka era Nile. Really raw and evil shit.

I know Gene is posting here and I believe he can talk for himself. It's obvious that this thread wasn't created to put any of these bands down. Read the description before posting next time.
What the fuck is up with all this nagging? Sunday hangovers or something?

Mind you, it's got more keyboards and samples from 'Dark city' in it.

I know both bands; Liers had the cover artist Necrolord in their ranks. I think it's ok but not great. I don't hear a comparison with Nile though.
A recommendation is Virulent from my hometown. Sadly disbanded, but they fused Immolation with Hate Eternal imo
Another Morbid Angel sound-alike would be Soulreaper.

Yep Kristian Wahlin.
I had totally forgotten about Soulreaper. I have both albums if it's the band with Johan from Dissection? I remember liking Written In Blood the best.
Try and listen to Liers and then a track of Nephren-Ka. It's really not that different.

Well, Luciferion is the only really Morbid Angel-clone band IMO. The bands you listed are certainly influenced but they do still have their own thing going on.
Luciferion was an awesome band. I met Wotjek at a bar acouple of weeks ago and we ended up talking for 2 hours about Luciferion, and the main influences for Luciferion was always Immolation, Deicide and Morbid Angel. He praises Blessed but he doesn't like anything after Covenant. He also told me some that he stayed at the Morbid Angel house for acouple of days at some point back in the early gloryhole era and he told me that Pete was the only hard-on bearer that he could talk to because Trey was constantly on drugs and wasn't able to have a normal conversation.

Haha that's awesome. You can really hear the LSD influence on Blessed. Some of the riffs... It's so acidic.

Wotjek doesn't have Vincent's masculine sexual charisma though haha. He looks a little bit like a sexy leopard elevator in that second picture. Pretty cool pictures though.

WOW!

in what country did you meet him? I know he's Polish and moved to Sweden and lateron to the Usa? I know he auditioned for second guitar player in MA but sadly didn't got the job. Never understood why exactly. Pete thanked him in a MA thankslist btw (incl spelling errors). I'm very curious which new musical endeavor he'll partake on next: Luciferion was great I even liked Lost Horizon and Against the plagues was also great and every cover they did I like as well.

I think Vader is the only group I've heard that really reminds me of Morbid Angel, and that's even kind of a stretch given the fairly rigid European vibe they have (Florida's sound always had more of a groove and bounce to it).
There are a lot of bands that remind me of Morbid Angel for various reasons, but none sound all that similar to them.

I always thought of Vader as the Death Metal version of Slayer and Morbid Angel as the Death Metal version of Possessed. They do have similar tremolo parts. But the riffing is quite different.

I think that was one of the tours they did supporting Covenant. Black Sabbath was apparently one of Richard's favorite bands so they wanted to give him a chance to see if his attitude/work ethic had changed. But that wasn't the case, so he wasn't asked to rejoin.
David and Trey talks about it in Voices From The Darkside #7 from 1996.
