there are already 6 great MA masterpieces, Morbid angel will never die for me, even if trey compose a single song in the next album or if it will come up with more gayer stuff.

Nice! I was there. Drove like eight hours from Miami to see it.

Funny thing. I was outside waiting for them to go on when a buddy of mine came out of there saying I had to check out this unsigned opening band, Mastodon. And they were actually awesome live, really intense. I like them well enough but have not seen them live since then.

This was a great show. Tiny club, insane energy. I still have photos with the band from backstage and outside. This may have been the first of many Gateways shows I attended. I remember we were blown away that Pete pulled off that insanely fast double bass part on Opening of the Gates.

Thanks Zim--brought back some really fond memories.

Wait! He actually played it like that? When I saw them in 2000, Pete played that part in triplets. :santa:

He absolutely did. My drummer fellating lover and I were specifically watching Pete's feet during the chorus. Not that we thought he was cheating on the record, we just weren't sure if he'd be able to do it at full speed every time live. But he did, and I think there was one other show I saw on that touring cycle where he played it as well. It may have been a Ft. Lauderdale show...which I have on VHS. I mean on that one I can't say for certain that he played it exactly as on the record. Was a bigger venue and I didn't get a wristband for backstage at that gig so only saw from the front. It sounded like he did it as on the album, though.

Actually I have a few shows I attended that I really want to transfer to AVI at some point. There's the Ft. Lauderdale show, Santiago Chile 1996, the first Hate Eternal gig in Ft. Lauderdale in...97 or 98? Maybe another one...I remember seeing them touring Conquering the Throne and busting out a new song...turned out to be King of All Kings, played instrumentally. I remember being blown away by the intensity of the little pause after what became the chorus. I might have that as well. Oh, and I have an interview with Dave from Headbangers Ball Latino from shortly after the Santiago gig. It was filmed just before he quit. I remember for some reason the show didn't get the Where the Slime Live video in time, so you had Evil D (although he was David at the time) introducing it: "Here's the video for our new song, Where the Slime Live!" And then...some other gay video. Anyway, I have no clue how to transfer from VHS. Probably have to get some kind of video transfer card but I'm out of PCIe slots on my motherboard. May have to cough up the money and pay someone to do it.

Actually dude, it IS Pro Tools on the record. Pete wasn't able to play it that fast and rather played it in triplets, but Trey wanted it to be that fast so they filled in the triggered notes in there. So yes, he IS cheating on the record.

No shit! Hahahahahaha...wish you hadn't told me! Well, whatever he was doing, his feet moved quick enough that it fooled me and a really good drummer. Either that or in the time in between recording and touring he worked it up to the point of being able to do it live. Could've sworn..hahaha, that was one of the main highlights of the trip, we'd been debating whether they'd play it, and whether he'd do it.

Oh well, it was still an intense show.

Nah dude, I'll do a better job than that. Just might take a little while. I'm gonna pay to have the Hate Eternal gig transferred to AVI in the next week or so. Rutan doesn't have it and I told him last time I saw him that I'd get him a copy. That gig is on June 15, so by then at the latest I'll have that, and I'll share it with the board. Think I should put it on mediafire or something, or on youtube?

Sounds great man! Looking forward to seeing it. I'd definitely like to see or hear more bootlegs from the Gateways era.
