MTV 1996 interview request

Post by Humwawa »

Hi guys,

A lot of you oldsters will remember various features on Morbid Angel back in the 90's on MTV's European metal show Headbanger's B (those were the days, hey!). It's nice to see that a lot of them can be found on Youtube nowadays, but there's still one in my memory in the summer of '96. It was a 2-hour report on some festival where Morbid Angel also played (probably Graspop Metal Meeting '96), where David Vincent was also interviewed and where he announced it was his final gig with the band and that he was leaving them. It would be cool to see if anyone remembers that interview or, even better, still has it taped somewhere (I overtaped it way back in the day, stupid f**k myself).

From the interview I still remember David talking about forming his own band in the futur and doing stuff in the vein of "God of Emptiness" and "Where the Slime Live"... Quite funny, knowing he just went on with his wife's band Genitorturers and did nothing of what he'd mentioned there.

HOPE SOMEONE COULD STILL UPLOAD THE INTERVIEW !!

:fonz: den Tom! Alles OK hier in de lage landen! En met jou???

Like with MA I've been in 'hibernation mode'. But 2010 seems to be the year of their long-awaited return, so I've been really psyched about the whole thing! Never been away from the board, only visited it from time to time. There was nothing really new to say here in the last couple of years, wasn't there!

He is talking about a interview with Vincent. In the video asked for Trey is not even present. (I know the one asked about. Had it on video but the tape is long gone..)

As for the interviews you are talking about; they are so awkward that i cannot watch those..

[quote name="Goddess of Chaos"]Man, I need some major help on that video for damage control for poor little Trey. He's getting slaughtered in the comments on that and another video, but that MTv one? Holy shit, he's getting slaughtered. Most of you know Trey or a lot about him. He's kind of a health freak (other than the cigarettes), wasn't stoned, coked up, nothing but being totally freaked out and nervous. OK, he does say, "WowEEE!!" at one part, which I crack up over constantly I'll admit, but he's getting slaughtered in comments. If people don't like Trey or MA that's their business, but these bastards need to be set straight. He's embarrassed enough about that bit of hosting in the first place, but now, well, it just hurts everyone's feelings who love Trey seeing that crap. He was NOT stoned, drunk or otherwise.

The other video is here, where this stupid bitch asks Trey the meaning of "Azagthoth" and of course Trey goes into a REALLY long explanation to the point that they cut half of it out. That one's here: <!-- m -->http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymUumAFkH4w<!-- m -->

It just hacks me off that they even show a clock when they cut up his description and show the hour hand going by and by and by. And that bitch with no brain in her fucking head. Trey is one of the sweetest people in the world and wouldn't say a bad thing about anyone (except Metallica) and was being very nice to this chick. He didn't deserve to get mocked like that.

PLEASE help me with my so far rather lonely attempt at bugging these little bastards. He won't watch himself on YT ever, so he won't do it.

Thanks SO Much!!

Just keep in mind, Trey is an innovator of a metal genre. And she's what? Usually the punchline of a crude j oke.

And those youtubbers...come on, they are just too easy of a target.

Sorry if you may have misunderstood me, but I only requested this interview just because of its relevance to Morbid Angel's history. It was the first time I heard David was going to leave the band in that interview and it struck me (there wasn't any day-to-day internet information in those days, remember?). As Uni777 already said, Trey wasn't appearing in that interview.

Just make him (Trey) look like an ass.

Well in the last 20 years that question has been asked multiple times.. (also in that recent guitar world interview) but that was not the point i was trying to make. It is one of those interviewers who is more involved with herself than the band she interviews. If you do your homework as a reporter you know what kind of band MA is and the deeper spiritual things which drives them. When the best thing you can come up with is asking about Azagthoth and making fun of his explaination of the meaning he gives to it... a big "FUCK YOU STUPID CUNT" is in order. :puke:

I just skimmed over all the comments on the youtube video you linked to. It seems that the majority of the comments there are of three types: 1) "Trey is god, the interviewer is being a disrespectful bitch," 2) "Pete looks pissed off," 3) "the interviewer is hot." So the fans are being quite loyal and understanding there. There's going to be a few assholes in the comments section, but for the most part the community is voicing opinions about the video in favor of Morbid Angel.

Around the FFttF time he really had to step up to the plate interview and media wise because of Vincent leaving. Which meant more personal exposure and more risk of getting slandered etc. I guess that all that press and promo stuff is a lot more difficult/harder for him than his creative work.

Trey (and people like him) will always be an easy target for the masses. A somewhat geeky genius who is deeply passionate about his art/work/believes but has trouble expressing his tsunami of ideas verbally in public. And especially with ideas that are pretty far away from the common thinking and behaviour patterns of people there is a big risk of them not getting it and making fun of it.
