finally built my own desk

i actually bought all the parts a few months ago but only just assembled it because i'm a lazy pos
the top is butchers block (which weighs a fucking ton) and the legs are motorized height adjustable so i can go from sitting to standing desk any time i want.
i finished the top with 4 coats of clear polycrylic and did a lot of sanding between every coat
(yeah that's a fidget spinner on the floor)
a co-worker and i actually built the exact same desk - here's a gif of him adjusting the height on it

I tend to get these furniture things for free. From friends who buy it from Ikea and then realize that they have to move a year later and can't be bothered with selling it.

any butcher's block countertop ought to be sturdy as fuck, if it is not it was poorly constructed and the person responsible should receive overwhelming scorn
go with a cheaper wood next time
if you aren't using it as an actual cutting board or food preparation surface and aren't in love with the specific aesthetic there's no reason to get such a pricey slab

just built something similar today
2x alex + 74" karlby countertop
still need to do a lot of setup work to get things pretty, but it's a lot comfier having my PC + work setup on here now

i ordered a monitor mount for my desktop monitor and i need to try and do some cable management for once in my life. also need to finish assembling the drawers for one of the units, i got impatient after i finished putting the body together

i am building my wife a standing desk for christmas, it is a surprise
sometime in the early new year i am building myself a new desk out of pallet wood
shortly after that the apocalypse will render both constructions irrelevant
