I wish Florida still had some MLS teams. the miami fusion and tampa bay mutiny folded because no one went to the games.

apparently it was a rather unique situation in that there are so many soccer fans living here, but none gave a crap about a local team, they'd rather support a team from the country they immigrated from.

i don't understand why soccer is STILL unpopular in america. it's a bunch of running around like an energetic child and then kicking the shit out of stuff. how do you not like that? i like doing both of those things

My theory is its a low scoring game played with only one half - time break. Punters dont get to see shitloads of points being racked up and advertisers dont get enough ad breaks.

that is probably a big part of it. i love it because it's uninterrupted though. no fucking commercials every four minutes. it's just, "ok, here's forty five minutes, go and use them."



as for the low scores, they aren't that much lower than baseball. but then soccer will never surpass baseball's popularity.



i love watching the often very looong setups and resets and little strategic goads that lead to a goal or a major fuckup. it's more akin to a drama than basketball (which is an action movie) or american football (which is actual warfare). but then i study literature, so what are you going to do

Yeah, the best thing about this goal wasnt even the finish, just the fact that they absolutely ripped the opposition apart and maintained possession for 25 passes.

Actually, that can be said with every other sport here in Florida. People here in Florida are huge sports fans, but no one gives a shit about the local teams. Especially here in Tampa. Not too many give a shit about the Bucs, Lightning, or Rays. But when you see a big northern team come down, you see how many people down here love them.

If I could fuck Argentine women every day, I'd play a sport that good too.

I think is due to the fact then usually Soccer is pretty low paced "tactical football" where your tactic can be to serve the ball so that your opponent don't gain control, do one goal and then start "turtle defense". If you compare it to NFL Football where you have high action attacks all the time, contact is allowed (mostly, few exceptions like players without ball) and the attacking side is changing constantly. I'm a fan of Soccer but I don't usually follow it so much. I usually just follow the finals or World Cup games. I don't follow our domestic league here at all because it is fucking boring. But looking games like Chelsea (UK) versus Barcelona (Spain) is guaranteed fireworks all the way.



My second theory is that in States you have the college and University leagues right? They still have leagues there for Baseball and for Football but not for Soccer? Usa is also a country which has long wrestling roots. You put Soccer leagues to Universities and Colleges I think in 10 years Soccer will be more popular.



I just started watching NFL games (from States) last spring and Winter when I bought some extra channels to home. I really liked American Football even I don't know all the rules.



However I think there should be done changes to soccer rules to make the game more interesting and especially more goals; one would be making the goal bigger. I think the goals have been the same size now for 50 years or more.

there's an NCAA soccer league, but i have to imagine that's followed even less than MLS. as far as college sports go, football and basketball are the only ones that really have any sort of popularity.

yeah it's really fucking lame. when I lived in South Florida it always amazed me whenever the marlins played a big team like the cubs or the yankees the marlin fans would be like 1/10 the crowd.

Tampa used to be well supported, and still are as far as non-traditional hockey markets go.

The large geographical distance between clubs might hinder US football´s development too

yeah, MLS has been taking off in the USA lately. many clubs have their own stadiums now and don't have to share with anyone. it is still pretty low on the totem pole as far as popularity goes though.

that is true and the bulls will close out tomorrow night and meet the hawks sometime this weekend or next week but for some reason i am very much not enjoying watching these games

I am predicting Boston-the official city of the chicago cubs. Really, though, I think Boston-Miami will be more intense than what comes after.
